Once again you're wrong.
There have been many things people have shit canned that were nothing to do with colour.
Like having Durin and his son Durin in the same place, can't happen according to Tolkien's lore. Each Durin was seen as a reincarnation of the previous one. Probably the dumbest shit of all to be honest.
Like having Galadriel on this quest she never went on nor was involved in and making her a Xena Warrior Princess. Close second dumb shit to Durin.
Like having Galadriel somehow standing over Finrod when he was actually tied in with and buried by Beren and Luthien in a very famous Tolkien tale.
It's kinda telling that the people who know nothing about such things seem the most vocal to defend the average writing. Especially after the show runners lied so much in the lead up to the show.

It's like you wanted to insert yourself into the conversation but then had no idea what you were talking about.
I don’t know much about Tolkien. I was trying to have a conversation about the casting of people of colour.

The writing is a bit wordy and it has that overblown over earnest LOTR thing going on.
Falling asleep was testimony to the fact I want totally engrossed but I will give it another episode or two. I did find myself wishing I was watching house of the dragon though.
Not being Tolkien fanboy I am not to fussed about the disconnect from cannon. I never come get on with his writing style.
The casting want really an issue, I don't think I would have really noticed if someone wasn't on here banging on about it.

I think it's obvious the review bomb is not from Tolkien or LOTR fans - some may have left a negative review of course, but this seems to be following on from the negative reaction to the all female Ghostbusters, the outpouring of hate towards Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran in Star Wars, and the recent reaction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe entries Ms Marvel and She Hulk.
Also, almost every Tolkien fan and casual fan I've seen or spoken to either loved, liked, or was ambivalent about the show. No hatred towards any aspect of it.

Watched it (episode 1) and loved it.
I saw it as great escapism and pure fantasy... exactly as intended.
It's competing in a post Stranger Things reality, TV wise and GOT (when it was good, which often its was), so I can see why it's ways may seem quaint to some, but I suspect there's more to this show than (has yet) met the eye.

I was a fan of the films and enjoyed the first episode of the new series. Will carry on with it for sure.
Couldn't call myself an aficionado of Tolkien's work at all tbh, even though I read the books (a long time ago) - so it doesn't really bother me if characters arent exactly as they were written originally...but I can understand why some people would be.

Well quite. It's just the usual "YoU lOt ArE tOo WoKe" brigade getting upset again. They really are a hyper sensitive bunch aren't they? It's the same as the casting or Corlys Velaryon on HotD.
I watched the 1st two episodes of both series. Enjoyed both.

Not sure you’ve read the room! Not many, if any, books have decades old societies, trusts, university collections, academic and alumni papers numbering in their thousands and literally a hundred fold more books about ‘the books’ like Tolkien’s works do. For the occasional nerd, just popping in for an hours entertainment, it’s hard to comprehend. However Tolkien’s literature has an almost religious like standing amongst tens of millions of readers worldwide. It’s sacred stuff not to be messed with so I can understand the ‘noise’ currently surrounding this series. Less is more was my first reaction to this series. If you can see it as purely entertainment you stand a chance of perhaps enjoying. Time will tell. If you’re likely upset by artistic licence, probably best avoided.
PS People dissect everything in general these days! You’re right though, everyone needs to chill and switch the internet off more often

Could only be one of the Maiar the way he arrived.
So it should be the blue wizard Alatar. Doubt they'd use his offsider Pallando and can't be Gandalf.
Can't be Sauron either as he never left middle earth after Melkor was defeated.
Unless it's another completely made up character.
After thinking about it, my guess is that it is Alatar - as that makes the only real sense - but they will initially try to trick the audience that it is Sauron.

I am certainly not a Tolkien fanboy and was happy to watch this on its merits.
I found it rather boring. Not sure I will bother with any more. It neither linked the story to LOTR nor did it stand alone as something engaging.
Found myself wishing I was watching The Sandman or House of the Dragon.
