If anyone can stomach it and double the audience, this could be comedy gold. I'll be watching the Lionesses.

Now that might prompt me to tune in to GB News. I do have other priorities to watch tonight -- eg C4 News and TdF highlights -- but if I'm still going after that, might give it a go.

Exactly this, every single word.

Look no further than the fact that Sunak didn't want to put a windfall tax on energy firms while the country's poor are on their knees. His reasoning was "it discourages investment". If you're thinking that is what all tax does but is a necessary evil to make society function, then you'd be right. What Sunak actually meant was that taxing energy firms would lead to some awkward dinner party conversations with his chums on the energy boards.

He then did so - just the months after ALL the opposition parties had called for it - only to cover up the latest government shit show.

Of a terrible terrible selection, Jeremy Hunt is probably the least bad option. Christ that is absurd. We have to get rid of this shower FFS.

Not forgetting that he has lived in the USA since 2015 in that famous US state of Westminster at an address of 11 Downing Street or paying his non dom wife's companies furlough.

Surely even the thickest of the thickest staunch blues can't blame Labour for the past 12 years of economic disaster and perhaps look a bit closer to home? Laying him on betfair at 2.88 should be like finding money in the street yet I somehow feel like he's going to win.

Good man. Taking one for the team.

I'm curious why people think Sunak would be the most sensible choice for a functioning government? I appreciate this is the majority view given he is favourite to win at the minute (7/4 ish on Betfair) but I just can't get my head around it. He has been very much part of this Governments complete shitshow and is the worst of the worst in the last cabinet. Personally, I'm team anything but Sunak. He would be worse than Johnson catering for Big bizniz, sod the poor in the cost of living crisis but make sure his rich mates are well and truely looked after.

In my eyes, Jeremy Hunt is probably the least worst option but he will never get the 1922 lunatic votes so has no chance as Brexit has cleared the sensible ones out. To that end, whoever we get is going to make promises about going even further right than we are today to scoop up the MP vote. At this rate Tommy Robinson could chuck his hat in.

Not forgetting that Sunak was a banker at the height of the banking crisis in 2008.

Sunak worked as an analyst for the investment bank Goldman Sachs between 2001 and 2004. He then worked for the hedge fund management firm The Children's Investment Fund Management, becoming a partner in September 2006.

The leadership race does remind of a bloke I used to work with called Colin.

A number of us were sitting in the pub after work, with something who had just joined.

Colin staggered in shitfaced , came up to the table and pointed to us all in turn.

"You're a ****"

"And you're a ****"

"And you're a ****"

"And you're a ****"

"And you're a ****"

"And you're a ****"

"And you're a ****"

(pause)

"I don't know you..."

this view seems based on the Johnson circus. policy wise Sunak has not been the shitshow people want to make out, marked by generally loose spending. most criticism is he hasnt spent enough. however biggest critics are the economic conservative, business types you think he's helping, who are none too happy about the spending (increased corp tax coming, NI increase falling on higher earners, windful tax). the others want to do is all about tax cutting.

...we see every other candidate, in one way or another, taking a potshot at him, particularly on the issue of tax.

The reason is this: by any modern comparison, tax and government spending is through the roof.

Plenty of Conservatives find this, well, un-Conservative.

i dont expect him to win.

i asked a question , you suggested i may be a racist .....do the Emirates have any Swedish m.p's does India have any Welsh m.p's , doe's Qatar have any Brazilian m.p's ...?? these are all matters of politics with and element of Race .....i ask a question and you replied saying that by asking that question you deemed me to be a racist ....you ****ing weirdo...!!

You said ‘Indian or Arab’ which indicates race, now if you’ had said something along the lines of ‘German, French, Indian or Arab’ you might just have a defence but you didn’t.

Seriously I have not seen even one bad video on Starmer and co, whereas the tories had them coming at them daily for years since Brexit really.

Typical deflection, unable to justify no insulting by Tory supporters so you attempt to claim the high ground of saying no bad Starmer videos, but completely overlooking the online comments by many on Starmer, Rayner and many other Labour mps.

Why am I assuming these are now spoofs?

Just Jamie Wallis MP to throw their Merc into the ring and we'll have the whole lot of 'em.
(Look them up kids)

They'll each get one vote except #GoNads.
Yet nobody will know how and why a bag of frozen peas got in the ballot box.

You can refer to the right honourable member for Bridgend as he/him although if Braverman wins the leadership contest, that could of course, all change.

Whilst the member for Uxbridge and North Ruislip does look familiar to me (and I admit, a lot of politicians look the same to me) I’ve looked at lists of all Johnson’s cabinets and ministers and he is NOT on it. Therefore, by process of non-association, this guy could do quite well. I’m looking forward to hearing about his policies, he could he just the sort of change we need.

not at all , i've been enjoying monday club and having the bookies over...i'll admit i'm not on the ball with British politics but it doesn't seem too good from this side of the pond.

was just looking at the names that are in the frame for Bozo's job and they seemed like a , well , an eclectic bunch to put a non controversial tilt on it.

:lolol:

To be fair, also, we don't really have a clue what Starmer has in his locker - 12 years out of power and some tomfoolery over their leadership (passim, thankfully. Hopefully).

If I was to be a bit more objective - as I clearly can't stand him - I know he was popular at the beginning of covid and understandably so given furlough was an excellent and generous scheme especially so for a Tory government. That said the sting was always going to be in the tail as he's got to get the money back somehow and free money has to be paid back, he just didn't jump the chancellor ship quick enough. Also. Quite why they decided to throw petrol on the housing market in covid was madness and he's lucky that's been forgotten. There also appears to be zero ingenuity on raising funds. A penny on NI is incredibly lazy and unimaginative for example.

All logic suggests he should get beat but the field is so poor its desperate. I can't quite believe I'm typing this but Grant Shapps looks the value at 100 plus to one and he's in charge of train strikes.

Apologies if this has been raised before but how can Grant Schapps stand as leader with his infamous pyramid selling issue on record?

Conservative MP Jamie Wallis has been disqualified from driving for six months and fined £2,500 after being found guilty of failing to stop, failing to report an accident and leaving the vehicle in a dangerous position, after crashing their car and fleeing the scene.
