Is NSC really a representative sample of the population?

84% against to date.

I suspect from various polls conducted on NSC, that it's more a representative sample of the population of Brighton and surrounding areas than of the rest of the nation. And I know that there are lots of posters on here from all over the country and world, but it does tend to be quite Brighton-centric

You could of course extend it out further by introducing a poll on abortion.

Any voters that are anti Capital Punishment but pro Abortion surely have a circle to square?

Happy to kill the unborn up to the birth canal in some countries, but horrified in hanging a child s*x offender.

The mind boggles.

Have you ever spent time in a prison? Grim doesn’t even begin to describe it.

It's interesting how those that have never been inside are convinced it's a cushy number.

Maybe because if a guy raped 20 different women those women would feel much safer in life knowing the prick was dead and could never harm them again?

It's not about a deterrent, it's about removing threats to society that have caused horrific trauma to not only their victims but their families.

A fair point. If it’s about removing threats from society then there’s a very very simple solution to this which doesn’t involve execution.

I think it’s accepted wisdom that everyone from The North wants to see people strung up for stealing bread from the artisan farmers market or wearing a coat.

Cryogenics? Like Demolition Man.

:lolol:

I was thinking more along the lines of life imprisonment. Translate to life-means-life or lock-em-up-and-throw-away-the-key I reckon I have secured the right wing vote!

I am anti CP and pro-abortion. I don’t see that I have a circle to square. Please do explain?

The argument would probably be that both are legalised killing. In fact, you could go further and say that CP is society meting out a form of justice to someone it deems guilty of a crime and abortion is the ending of the life of a human not guilty of anything.

I am sure that’s what the argument would be.

Quite.

It's not really rocket science that anti abortionists go by the tag, pro life. I'm not sure what needs explaining there.

And to further muddy the waters. I'd be surprised if there's not at least some pro life campaigners who are also pro CP.

It's a funny old world.

Indeed, in Texas, a bill is being talked about where women who have abortions, can be sentenced to death.

That's certainly true in the more 'conservative' parts of the USA.

It’s quite simple really, I don’t believe the state has the right to take a person’s life away nor tell then what to do with their body.

No circles to be squared away far as I’m concerned. I appreciate it’s an emotive topic and many opinions will differ to mine.

If you’re not a psycho, prison is a hellish experience.

Are you speaking from personal experience?

I'm always curious how views on prison life are formed by those that haven't experienced it personally. There does appear to be a fairly widespread view in this country that prison is a cushy number, whilst simultaneously believing that it's perhaps not a good idea to bend down to retrieve the soap in the showers.

Odd.
