No, but they play in front of them at least 38 plus times a year. Must be used to it by now.........

Perhaps our boys could be made to wear ear pieces during training with fake crowd noise piped through so they can get used to it. There'd be a low level anxious grumble setting, an inappropriate "shoot" setting, a spiteful "don't shoot!" setting, a loud, angry "aagghh FFS" setting, and of course a classic "boooooo!" setting. Actually, I think I've had quite a good idea!

And sometimes maybe one more pass gets you in a better position

There's always one more pass.

“Because sometimes there’s an opportunity to shoot - sometimes it’s a chance for the block and then the transition. And sometimes maybe one more pass gets you in a better position but, if you miss the pass, you should have shot.

Is that really his attacking philosophy? Don't shoot because it might get blocked and there might be a better chance if you pass it one more time.

Ok, so Maupay has the ball on the edghe of the box, but he's under instruction not to shoot because another pass might be a better position, so he plays it on to Trossard. But he's not allowed to shoot because one mor pass might make better position. So he plays it off to Welbeck. Well his pass goes to Cucurella. To March. To Cucurella. To Welbeck, to trossard. To March. Each person passing it on because there might be a better chance if they make one more pass.

Suddenly our inability to score makes sense.

Yes, this.

But also, if you break quickly and directly and the pass is forwards then you should have plenty of space to shoot in. If you let the opposition back into shape with a ponderous transition of your own then of course you're going to need to shift it sideways five yards ad infinitum.

I see some fans are already jumping on him for saying something that the reporter appears to have made up for the headline.

I read it as it’s tough when the players hear the fans shouting “shoot” that’s all. Nowhere is he telling the fans to stop doing it. He’s not a moron and it seems he understands why the fans are doing it.

I’m off to dig out a couple of pieces of wood, a hammer and some nails though :lolol:

Edit - I see the article heading has been edited to summarise what he actually said

Quite.

Let’s not shoot, just try and walk the ball in the net…..

We are not feckin Arsenal FFS!

Not quite what he said though, but a ‘challenging’ answer to the interviewers question…..

Obviously its his philosophy. If you shoot 20 shots from a position where you statistically have a 0.05 chance of scoring then you are less likely to score than if you shoot 5 shots from areas where you statistically have a 0.25 chance of scoring. I wish I could give you a recent example where most of the shots where taken in hopeless situatons and a team failed to score but I cant seem to remember any...

Doesn't actually say that though, does it?

Clickbait headline.

Article says: "The build-up suggests we’re getting there. Of course, the longer you go, you can hear the crowd, ‘shoot, shoot, shoot’, you know, and that sometimes is a challenge for the players."

And Potter’s abysmal home form is a challenge for match going supporters.

I thought the common wisdom was we all £uck off by the 82 minute anyway, so how come they score more late goals. As the old Chinese proverb says: if no one shouts shoot in an empty stadium can a footballer hear them?

I don’t think that GP was implying any of the things that people here are accusing him of!
Sometimes if you shoot, it’s going to be the right decision, sometimes it won’t be. That’s all he’s saying as far as I can see.
Making the decision in that position is not straightforward. You see a clear route to goal, but by the time you’ve hit the shot a defender has managed to get there - it’s what defenders are for.
“Oh, can you all stand still, chaps, while I just slot it in there!”

Yes - and if you wait to see if that happens .......................... it does.

79 minute training sessions, could work!
