I think the only thing preventing us from getting this Vanzeir in January is that he might not be the player GP is after.

The latest article in the Arse-gas about Dante quotes a Belgium sports journo explaining why the young forward IS a GP style player.

The reason we’re probably not going to sign him or his impressive striker partner is because we don’t think they’ll make the step up and we don’t want to hurt USG’s chances of a first title in a century or so.

I read an article which stated he had ambitions to own a foreign club to see how far he could take them. He spent a long time reseaching and looking into clubs and the chance to buy union came up. They are one of the most successful clubs in the history of Belgium football and the chance to take them back there was too good to turn down.

Maybe he sees it as a bit more than that. Like a summer cottage. He can spend a few million and immediatly see the results, unlike in PL. Its all a bit more picturesque and real: People go to games because they want to, not because they were the only ones who could afford it, not everything has to be clean and streamlined enough to not offend the worldwide audience, its just a bit more grassroots and he knows he can have more impact there. I'm sure he loves Brighton and probably the Premier League but I can imagine getting stomped by oil funded super teams while playing in glorified libraries can get a bit dull and monotone at times.

USG had an average attendance of less than 3,000 in 19/20. Now they are promoted, its likely to be more.

£15m CL payout represents a significant wedge for a club of that size.

Good points there. Not to mention that Bloom has a better chance at dining at the top table in the Champs League with USG than he does with Brighton. I'm sure TB would love a bit of Euro action and the chance to upset a few of the 'bigger boys'.

But if Mitoma and Vanzeir are with us next season (or even if they aren't) then managing a CL campaign will be tough without significant investment. Way more than the £20m they'll be given after. Most likely they'll get stuffed every match

The more you pronounce on The Champions League the more I think you have no idea about how it works.

You're talking as if plotting City's next attempt at the title.

If they get to the Champions League, and it's still quite a big if at the moment as they've got to finish in the top 4 then win the end of season play offs to get automatic qualification to the group stage,then they may need a bit of investment in the playing side. But there will be absolutely zero point in plowing millions at trying to compete in the Champions League, all they've really got to try and do is get two wins against the other team that isn't from pot 1 or 2 in their group and they should finish 3rd add maybe a bonus draw against one the big boys along the way and that brings in another £8 million, and they will be in the Europa League with more of a chance of glory and a bit more cash.

They would be better off investing with a view to trying to qualify for Europe again in the league which won't require such a large investment and slowly develop the squad. Which I am sure with Uncle Tony at the helm is their much more likely plan.

My thinking is that if GP wants the players doing well there, TB will make it happen regardless of the possibility of winning the league and the money which might come from that.

(They wouldn't be getting mates rates). Plus, it stands to reason they would have an increase the size of their squad to play the extra games even if they resigned themselves to defeat in all 6.

Then there's the timing, they would be playing qualifiers next August, just when we would need to be finalising our squad. We'd surely prefer to know whether we're going to have a new striker and winger from USG without waiting on the result of those.

You are complicating things way to much. They'll be able to play CL games at the National Stadium which is where they were based for the 2016-18 domestic seasons. If Qarabağ can get capacity crowds in the Baku Olympic Stadium when they only have a stadium that holds 5,000 people then i'm sure USG can do similar.

Also although being the major investor and therefore the money man he is a lot more hands off with USG. His co investor Alex Muzio is the chairman and I believe Jurgen Baatszsch remains president of the club and as was stated by Tony at the time he took up there will be no link between the clubs at boardroom level.
