On Saturday Buonanotte became the eighth player aged 21 or under that we have used in an EPL game this season. That moves us above Chelsea and Wolves who have picked seven. Southampton joined us on eight by giving a debut to their new signing Sulemana. We actually ended Saturday's game with four of these eight on the pitch: Caicedo (20), Enciso (19), Sarmiento (20) & Bounanotte (18). A fifth, Gilmour (21), had started and we had two more players under 22, Moran (19) and Offiah (20) as unused subs. Old Man Lamptey (22) also started and Jan Pensioner van Hecke, (also 22) was on the bench. Colwill (19) and Ferguson (18), both part of 5 players 21 or under who finished the Aresnal game in January, were missing through injury. Giving league debuts to Offiah (who has played in the league cup, but not the EPL) and/or new signing Ayari (19) would put us on nine or ten in a season. It's a shame Carl Rushworth (21) is on loan, as with him we could arguably field an entire team of EPL ready U23s.

Of those others out on loan or in the U23s: Taylor Richards (22) and Reda Khadra (21) seem like yesterday's men, but have, along with the ancient Connolly (23) and Zeqiri (23), made their EPL debuts, whilst others like Haydon Roberts (20), Ed Turns (20), Jack Hinshelwood (17) and I'd guess one or two others who I've missed, have been in EPL match day squads, but not yet featured. Then there are others like Kozlowski (19), Sima (21) & Adingra (21) who were sent straight out on loan.

It's mad. In a year or so, our squad could look like it was assembled by someone who had spent hours on Football Manager just hunting down and signing all of the regens.
