Did anybody else think that it was amazing that there were still 23 veterans at the Cenotaph yesterday to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the outbreak of World War 1? Amazingly one of them was also a veteran of World War 2. How much longer can these guys go on? They are living history

One of the most moving and amazing docs I have seen on the two World Wars was filmed I think in the mid maybe late 90s. Just some veterans (of ww1) filmed talking about their experiences...very few photos, just their accounts. They were all over a hundred at the time. I don't remember the name of it, but it stands out for me, amongst all the many others I have seen, as a televisual record of that war.

Heard a report on the radio that said there were only four surviving veterans from World War One, pretty amazing really, they must all be over 100 years old. Won't be much longer before the generation who fought in the Second World War start thinning out, then the numbers at the Cenotaph on Rememberance Sunday will really start to drop. There have been plenty of wars since the end of WWII but few with so many participants or as well known, it is up to future generations to remember their sacrifice.

We will never really have any idea what they must have seen and done as ordinary young men...the like of which today are stuck behind screens on sites like this. It is frighteningly sobering.

It was called simply "veterans" and was very moving. I have the book of the series, but it is as nothing compared to seeing them tell their story and to realise how many had passed on between filming and the showing of the series.

Long may the fallen of all nations be remembered.
