Is there any other league ground in the country that is quieter than Withdean at the moment? We were outsung by bloody Stockport on Saturday. In the first couple of years at Withdean there was the occasional game with a decent atmopshere but I can't remember the last one - maybe Palace? Home games are no longer an event at all, witness the last few games not selling out. Anybody have any ideas on what can be done to sort this out for (hopefully) our last couple of seasons at Withdean?

Also, to stop this happening at Falmer as soon as we get the OK we must designate a new North Stand to stop the place turning into a new Madjeski.

not that this is the point you were making, but i do remember a game at the goldstone (possibly on boxing day?) when we beat stockport 2-0 if i remember rightly. i was quite young and sat in the south stand by the away fans and they didnt stop singing for one single second. very impressed was young i...

They travelled a long way, expecting to lose. Of course they had a sing song. Withdean is poor but others, with the potential to create atmosphere are worse.. Forest, Middlesbrough, Reading etc etc all rubbish.

We know why the atmosphere is crap, but things can be done to improve it.

Many people sit in the singing section and don't contribute at all to the atmosphere. They laugh at some of the songs as if they've never heard them before.

There needs to be a PROPER singing section at Falmer. Not one where people sit if they don't intend to sing.

we need a huge f***ing terrace north stand stylee at falmer behind one of the goals. then everyone can stand with their mates/others wishing to sing, etc and create a PROPER atmospherre.

I think credit should be given to the Stockport fans. They have struggled just as much as us over the last two seasons. They have got a new manager and managed to turn the corner.
They sang very well and did their team good. The points were needed more by them than us.

Our singing on Saturday was a bit weak. I do sing but I am not going to lead the singing when I have Dtg on my right and Krispies on my left.

Well I sit in row G of J block and apart from the lads that sit in front of me, below that they don't sing at all!

Mind you you do have to be in the mood for it (this generally equates to the amount of throat oil that has been consumed before the game) and also wether our team is giving us anything to sing about!

What makes you think people will sing just because the stand has a roof?

If they're not singing, then they won't sing.

You (generally) make up a load of rubbish about Reading fans not singing, and then we hear this about how you're struggling to sing.
Pot calling kettle black?

Singing at Withdean is difficult because of the lack of roof as you know. The sound gets carried away on the breeze.

When we are at away grounds the indifferent start joining in because they can hear which song is actually being sung.

On Tff we were voted best away fans by a lot of teams in div 1 last season, especially by Forest fans

I think half the problem is for the first time at Withdea, we are in a division lower than the previous year. Everything is a case of been there done that and theres not much to get excited about. With the problems that we face at Withdean it makes everything else that much harder. Last time in Div I would have been delighted just to stay up so when we were near the top all year we were loving it. This year the expectation is there and its not so much of a suprise. There lies the problem.

I agree about the been there done that routine but surely by now we'd have found something to get excited about this season. Imagine what the place would be like if we were mid table. Of course it'll never happen but wouldn't it be great if the whole south stand became an unreserved area so that everyone who wants to sing and (whisper) stand can do so and make some noise. I'd be happy if they made one whole stand at Falmer unresrved seating so that season ticket holders and non-season ticket holders could congregate a la the old North Stand. Maybe I'm getting a bit ahead of myself though...? Can't wait for Peterboro' for the atmosphere on Sat.
