Its just my wife and daughter who watches this, but last night i did as well, that couple who owned that pub should be holding their heads in shame the way they have neglected their kids, leaving them upstairs all the time to..just get on with it, and play games..the father was a complete joke, swanning around behind the bar like some sort of celebrity..shame on them, the word selfish is an understatement regards that couple....as for the other couple..the guy smoking in front of his kids., and what with the mother away all them hrs, she could have done half them hrs and topped the other up with tax credit ..well, just as selfish......all them couiples did last night was to show millions of viewers that all they cared about was number 1 :(

Unfortunately it is fact of life for a publican and his wife that to an extent the children can be 'forgotten'. In 1968 we had a pub near Kings Cross and 2 children 1 aged 3 and 1 a baby. I opened up at 5.30 to work the shift until the part time staff came in at 7.00pm but we got busy and my wife came down to help me and finished up still being there at about 6.30 when we heard a bang upstairs and she rushed up to see what was happening only to find our eldest 3 years old trying to make a bottle for the baby and had pulled the kettle off of the cooker. Fortunately it had cold water in as he hadnt turned the gas on or lit it. This one incident made us leave the pub as we said that we would never have another pub that was too small or too low turnover to have staff so that we were not dependant on my wife having to work with me when the children were about. We were fortunate and found a busy pub that had plenty of staff so our problem was solved but all could have been so different and I dont class myself or my wife as bad parents just circumstances overtook us.
