Why did Extras have "Tea For The Tillerman" at the end?

Maybe it's something very obvious and I'll happily run that particular risk but watching it again recently I've never been able to work this out; is there some connection between that short Cat Stevens song and Mssrs Gervais and Merchant's fine sitcom?

interesting question

i always presumed gervais and co. liked it, and it contained pathos etc as well as uplift. you know, for the obscure but nice factor

if indeed there is such a factor which there probably isn't... aaaahhhh

Probably chosen due to its beauty, uplift and length.

It also caps the Tea for... album and - at its climax you realise something very special has happened over the past 30+ mins... akin to the show itself.

An awesome album, timeless and, as already stated: resplendent in its hazy, melodic, “candles at midnight”, wine stupefied essence.

Cause while the sinners sin, the children play

Oh Lord how they play and play
For that happy day, for that happy day

I would think it may have something to do with these lines? The programme depicts adults locked in what some may call a childish pursuit, seemingly enjoying what they do (playing) but with a hint of pathos that illustrates the likey futility of their pursuits.

That's my theory.
