i want defoe and rooney, but i feel erikkson will wait to see how owen does for england before dropping him, so if he does badly v wales, i think defoe will come in for azerbaijan if thats who is up next after wales.

Rooney and someone to give the ball to Rooney. Probably Defoe, Owen, Smith in that order.

Rooney is just coming back from a major injury and looked tired on Sunday. Owen is right out of form as well. Sven would be taking a massive risk by pairing these two, especially as we have already dropped points against Austria.

You have to start with Defoe, and go for Rooney if he looks sharp in training. If not, bench him and start with Smith, who is the sort of guy who will relish this match.

Owen still has a massive part to play, but Wales will be right up for it and England need to start with quality players in form.

Smith is the form man. Defoe hasn't scored since he played for England last time out (apart from league cup) Vassell can't keep getting picked and never scoring goals for villa. rooney is 'tired'!! Owen is unfit and out of form. For me it has to be Smith and Rooney.

i want to see carlton cole or heskey get picked in the squad really. but going with what we have i would start with rooney and owen. there is NO WAY you can drop owen for such an important game. he always produces the goods and links with rooney. he is our best natural goalscorer and we cant just drop him yet in my opinion.

no doubting defoes talents but owen is fantastic.

Rooney, naturally. Defoe has to be the other one, a form player with real ability ahead of a player who hasn't been in form in years - just looked sub-standard in recent games

Hasn't Smith scored all of one goal in the same period? He looks out of his depth at international level.
