We have lost 4 great managers over the last 5 years because we have not stadium. Of the 4 which do you have the most respect for.

If Coppell walks I will have him last in the list as what he is doing is far worse than what Peter Taylor has got slated for IMHO.

1. Brain Horton - Left the club whilst 7th in div 3 playing at Gillingham going to Port Vale which was a division higher and nearer his family.
2. Micky Adams - left the club whilst in div 2 to Leicester a division higher as their no 2.
3. Peter Taylor - left the club whilst gaining championship to div 1 as he felt the budget given did not give a realistic chance of staying up but gave 3 months time to get new manager
4. Steve Coppell - waited for 6 weeks before signing a 1 year contract and then 3 months later speaking to a club 1 division higher whilst we are top of the league , citing the ground issue which he knew about 3 months ago.

Your poll should be "Who gets the least respect" because it's a much easier choice.

No contest-Coppout wins hands down.

But....on to your current poll: Can't decide other than knowing it'll never be Coppout

Gonna say Adams although he won't admit that Leicester only got promoted by cheating their way through administration.
Though Horton had made the right decision at the time.

Taylor left because he didn't have confidence in hin own abilities.

I have no respect for Coppell, that 6 week holiday stuff is a f***ing joke.

OK then. Rephrase the question. If Coppell decides to leave Brighton at this minute to go any Division One club bar Reading or Palace, who is bottom of the list in that scenario?

Peter Taylor - the only one with the courage of his convictions. Said the budget wasn't good enough and walked. All the others accepted the budget signed a contract and then complained about things that they knew when they signed the contract and walked leaving us in the shit mid season

Don't start slagging me and him off, cos it's true

Had a think and it has to be Micky....he put this club in the position it finds itself in (fortitude, team spirit, etc.). He set things up that will see us good until Falmer.

Still Coppout.

Just before he left, Adams signed a new contract that got the club a compensation package.

Coppell signed a new contract that will get the club a compensation package.

Horton had a contract that got the club a compensation package.

Taylor always refused to sign a contract. We got nothing.

So signing a contract that you have no intention of keeping is better than not signing it because you're not sure you can honour it.

All about money then, so let's not blame Coppell for lack of principles then? The money is obviously more important.

I respect Adams for everything he has done for the club, He built a team which is still the basis of the current team and left for a bigger club knowing he would get to manage in the premiership having given us one championship and the second was ther eona plate for us.

Taylor was a bottler so no chance, Horton left us for a shite club when he could have pushed on with us and been great.

Coppell, will have the upmost respect if he turns reading down otherwise f*** him.

I wouldn't have said this a week ago and I may recant it next week but my answer today is Taylor. As I mentioned on another thread he at least had the decency to leave at the end of the season. He didn't have a job to go to, the very best he was hoping for was that one might turn up. He could have easily have hung on picking up his salary and then jumped ship when the likes of Reading or Leicester came along. He could still have used the same excuse or the Coppell/Adams/Horton one.

Take a bow Peter Taylor - the most honourable of all recent Albion managers.

Euggh I can't believe I typed that, this whole episode has addled my brain.

Looking at this from a "what they did" perspective rather than "How they left"

1. Adams by a country mile. He gave us back our respect. He left a team that was good enough to make the 1st division, and we'd have stayed there if it wasn't for MH.

2. Coppell, 4 points out of the first 14 games before he arrived yet we were still in it on the last day of the season. That plus the 4-1 drubbing of wolves. Better than Manure did the other week!!

3. Horton, 'cos he's an albion legend.

4. Taylor - Put him last - all he did was get us promoted with MA's team.

Is it true that Steve Gritt was awarded a new contrct just before he was sacked, so he would get a good payoff, as a thank you for saving us from oblivion?

Oh sorry, if it's "what they did" then Adams unquestionably. I keep thinking only in terms of loyalty and respect at the moment rather tah acievment.

Adams wins this hands down, if wed have missed out on him there is every chance wed still be in Div 3 and looking forward to Leyton Orient away as our big fixture.

Half his team are still here and the spirit he installed still thrives, the best manager we have ever had bar none!

Coppell definately comes last in that list, I hope and pray that we get Falmer and pass him and whoever hes with on the way up to the Prem, much as we did with Horton at Vale.

"What they did" was just the way I approached it. The loyalty stuff is also v.important. But I think the more a manager has acheived for the club - the more you can forgive on thier departure. I still think the current make up of the squad owes a lot to MA.

Along with currently 80% of NSC Adams.

Brought in the players, the team spirit and the backroom staff that have put us out of division 3 for hopefully a long time to come. Brighton was his last proving ground, he was already fairly hot property and was always going to go for a bigger offer, but at least stuck around long enough to leave a permanent mark on the club.

Also I met him a couple of times and he was a nice bloke and extremly level headed IMHO.

Adams. In addition to all the other comments, he still sticks up for this club. Like yesterday when he said that he thought Coppell should stay with Brighton. Other managers like Taylor used us and don't give a shit about us, but Adams hasn't forgotten his time at Brighton, which made him the Premiership manager he is today.
