A lot has been said about Sir Micky Adams lately, which leads me to ask....
Which Albion manager do you admire / hold in high regard and why?
Personally...it's Steve Gritt and Sir Micky equally
im going to get slated now but when coppout was here i did enjoy the style fo play he had us doing. the wing backs etc. but then we all know what hes like now.....
I think macgoo has done extremly well he has added at least 4 capable players to the squad without signing anyone except IWELUMO and REID also he has now tightened the defence and re installed a lot a disipline.
We have been very lucky with our managers in the last 5 years.
A big thanks to Dick Knight for continueing to attract the best available in very difficult circumstances.
It's hard to judge as they tended to take over the reigns under very different circumstances. I always though Barry Lloyd got a lot of unfair stick bearing in mind who was on the board during his reign. I also still feel that Mullery was highlyoverrated, a fact that was clearly prooved in his second stint here when he had to manage a team with no cash. He did sod all then.
Obviously Mickey was a god but Taylor did well as did Steve Gritt (very unfairly treated IMHO) but there again I'm not unhappy with Mark McGhee. Assuming we don't go up this season then I would be unhappy if we didn't next season but there's so many offield issues that need resolving.
Overall though it has to be M' Adams esq with honourable mentions to Alan Cork and Bob Booker.
The obvious ones have been mentioned but Peter Taylor the Elder did a fine job putting together a team that included Peter Ward, Peter Grummitt, Chris Cattlin, Graham Cross, Ian Mellor, Brian Horton (I think?) and left Mullery to add the finishing touches to what turned out to be the best ever Albion team.
Mike Bailey bored the arse of us but had us up to 6th in Div 1 and finishing our best ever 13th and with not much money. Whatever happened to him, he seemed to disappear of the face of the earth after he got the sack from us.
