London Road without question. I don't think it helps that traffic coming into Brighton is directed away from it so that shops are denied 50% of passing trade.

London Road is a close second to St. James' for the worst in Brighton

This is one of the great myths. Neither London Road nor Lewes Road do well from "passing trade". Most passing cars are simply aiming to get to and from other places.

As shopping centres, both Lewes Road and London Road rely mainly on people who live locally and walk to the shops or travel by bus and taxi.

The massive improvement in the reliability of buses travelling along London Road has brought huge benefits to the city and London Road is benefitting from this. Any down-turn in trade is accounted for by the fact that fewer real Brightonians now live within walking distance - and that is the result of houses being bought up at ridiculous prices by the new breed of London commuters who don't do the same sort of local shopping that built up these two centres in the first place.

London Road sucks, the only saving grace of being anywhere near there is the Open Market and the Rosehill boozer.
Lewes Road is okay, a couple of good butchers and a nice bakers along there and the Bugle hidden just off it. They are both shitty roads i agree but both have good things about them too.

At the foot of the downs
They both seem to be as bad as each other, looks like the council are trying to sort London road though,

Ah, you see I was judging it in the context of the whole road and not just the retail part. I'd agree London Road's retail part is poor, but furthur up you have the park, access to the theatre of trees, patcham and the tandoori etc. What does Lewes Road have?

London Road always reminds me of a Pikey camp site..

Its dirty, full of strange looking people and is really really common!!!

I bet all the people there shop at Peacocks and Lidl

oi! i live near london road, thats why i hate it so much, i always walk along it to get into town. it didnt used to be that bad, my memories of it is that i can never remember drunks and people on the streets.
november, december of last year and january and february of this year, i walked along it at least once a week in the freezing cold(usually raining) afternoon/evening and that just turned me against it
