What's happened to the County Champions?

I don't pretend to be a great devotee of cricket but I thought I would have a look at the various tables yesterday and was very shocked to see how badly Sussex were doing again. Was last season a blip in their usual mediocrity?

Anyone tell me what's going on?

We won the Championship last season basically because in most games we batted first, got 450+ then Mushy & Kirtley bowled them out twice.

This season we have too many batters out of form and have only been getting 150-200, which does not allow time for Mushy to work his magic.

In the 1 dayers, we were crap last year as well.

Hadlee has hit the nail on the head, too many old underperformers in the team this year, with the exception of Grizzly and Ward the batting hasn't been very good or consistent all season... And then we come to the bowlers who this season just bowl wide after wide after no ball, it's just gone very pear shaped, hopefully we'll ship out some of the old underperformers next season and get some youngish talent in.

We're just finding form in the Championship, don't be surprised to see a few more victiories and a late CHARGE for the title.

We suck this year. I had to turn over the other night in the 20/20 game as it was too embarassing to watch.

One of the worst performers has been Murray Goodwin, I don't think he has hit a Championship 50 yet let alone a ton.

His dreadful form has hit Sussex hard as we cannot afford to have one of our overseas players underperforming like that.

Hopefully when/if he does hit form he will hit it BIG style, with a few back to back tons.

The weather hasn't helped either. The wickets have been too damp for Mushy to get going. He's hardly taken a wicket all season. We could still come good - but we'd need to as we're in danger of following Yorks example of a Championship followed by relegation!

It's been an embarrassing season so far that's for sure. The 2 matches at Arundel were awful. We do not seem to have a clue what to do. Coach Peter Moores is highly rated but he needs to earn his corn and soon. The members are not happy. we shall be collapsing our deckchairs soon:lolol:

Wouldn't bank on it - if we go down, Surrey may well join us.

Was there yesterday watching them capitulate to Sri Lanka A.: a pathetic performance.

Some of the fringe players should be pushing for a place but, Tony Cottey aside, they looked less than dynamic.

I did win the autographed bat in the raffle though

:clap2:
