1-0 down, match abandoned, Frisk brained with a lighter, plenty of previous form...

slap on the wrist and a tiny fine? If that had been in England...

Roma will have to play one game behind closed doors and pay a fine of around £500k. That would be it I should imagine. There is ZERO chance of them getting kicked out, they are in the same group as Real Madrid and we have to think about the TV ratings don't we?

I suspect if the same thing happens at Millwall tonight we'll be hearing rather more about it.

Could be quite nasty tonight. The Bushwackers are probably quite keen to make a name for themselves.

I very much doubt there's a Hungarian equivalent of a nighttime 'stroll' from South Bermondsey station to the New Den for a big match. *shudders*

The New Den is going to be well under capacity tonight. They still have thousands of tickets left unsold because of their membership scheme. That scheme really has decimated their support, I can still remember seeing thousands and thousands of empty seats when they played at Old Trafford in the Cup semi-final.
Fradi fans are well known for their rascism and their eagerness to start a ruck. Gypsy's and black players are their favourite targets, the return game in Bucharest is where things could get interesting...

UEFA are already talking about the rights of Roma to appeal against any decision that is taken against them.

The financial world has made its judgement already ... shares in Roma have fallen in value by 8.4 per cent this morning.

And the local police chief has pronounced that the abandonment of the game was greeted calmly by most supporters and that it would be wrong to characterise all fans as criminals. The football club wants to "neutralise" the minority of trouble makers.

Tough action, then, as the authorities back their football club.

At least they caught the toe-rag who threw the missile clear as anything on camera. He'll have his collar felt before long I should think.

Teams just don't get booted out of UEFA competitions anymore. I think the last team to get kicked out was, ironically, Dynamo Kiev after they tried to bribe a referee before their Champions League against Panathinaikos in 1995. Even that turned into a bit of a cop-out because Dynamo were supposed to be banned for 3 years but UEFA overturned the decision and banned them for 1 year because it "was harming the development of Ukrainian football".
Ajax once got booted out of UEFA competitions and banned for the following season after a supporter chucked a crowbar at the opposition goalkeeper, knocking him spark out.

Didn't the English ban 'harm the development of english football'? or did it just stop our dominance at the time?

Hmm, 'nail and 'head' come to mind, OG.

Do you think UEFA will even award the tie to Kiev? they definitely should, but who feckin knows with UEFA and FIFA??? :glare:

On the positive side, all the extra publicity should help the lovely Mr Frisk in his quest for a leading role in a shampoo ad or gillete endorsement.
The funniest thing I heard in Euro 2004 was Alan Green remarking that Frisk has 3 things in his pocket - a yellow card, a red card & a mirror! :lolol:

The other point about the whole thing that seems to have been glossed over is that you would have expected the fourth official to take over if Frisk wasn't fit to continue. But the prima donna Swede overruled normal procedure saying he 'wasn't experienced enough'.

Err, why? What is the point in him being there if he can't referee when called upon? As has been suggested above, sounds more like a case of if I can't do this game, no-one else will.

Do you ever read things and think deplorable and barbaric though that is I wish I'd seen that?

UEFA will cop out make them replay the match behind close doors and a small fine.

UEFA are no longer able to run european football, european football now runs UEFA.

realistically they should award the game to Roma's opponents, with the score to stand even though there were still 50 minutes left.

Although what happened wasn't the players' fault, the Roma fans can't be allowed to think they can do what they like when they're not happy with decisions, otherwise they'll do the same thing every time they're losing.
