What happened to the extra Withdean seats?

I hope not Jameson. The club is in dire need of the extra revenue that the seats would bring in. The planning approval process really sucks in my esteemed view.

Not the real one
Aint gonna happen people. Unfortunately some withdean idiot has kicked up a fuss and it needs to go before a court to get approved. Also the club need to secure another park and ride site, they haven't done it. Carden Ave was to be used, up by ASDA, but the supermarket objected to it. Think the club should concentrate on Falmer. Hopefully we'll only be at Withdean for another season and a half.

Sometimes I seriously wish we didn't live in a democratic society.
The moaners and whingers make me sick beyond belief.

Correction we have already got planning permission for the extra seats.

A Withdean resident is challenging the legality of the council's planning committee.

as usual silent took far too long doing anything about this and now as stated above the extra seats being put in is being held up by residents, what i dont understand is would these locals object if 7000 people turned up to an Athletics meeting and cheered and sung and made lots of noise?

And would anyone take any notice of what the residents said if Withdean was in the middle of an area not quite so awash with money and full to bursting with self important Little Englanders?

the council approved the application back on the 2nd of feb.
awaiting a legal agreement to be signed, it can then go ahead. but that also gives the chance for the NIMby's to retaliate again.

the planning application also included us staying at withdean library til june 30th 2005.

on a technicality (however you spell it) we shouldnt be playing there as the original agreement ran out 30th june this year, and the current application hasnt been finalised

The seats are not going to happen. I personally don't think the club are willing to take the financial risk. It is fairly clear to me the club are dragging their heals over issues at their end and not fighting the judicial complaint with any real vigour. You compare their attitude to these seats and previous Withdean/Falmer issues and you'll see what I mean.

Correct - a single withdean resident has objected and is taking court action against the Council over their decision to grant.

Also- the Park 'n' Ride is still not finalised and nothing can be built until that is confirmed (still Carden Avenue afaik). I think a further planning application for the Park 'n' Ride has to be heard (not absolutely certain about that though but if true then, given it is now the summer recess would expect that to be heard in Sept or Oct)

As the application included both building on the West Bank and expanded the East Stands I can't see how both can be done during the season so I would reckon they will just do the West Bank (permanent fixture to include new hospitality suite and dressing rooms) this year, and then expand the East Stand for next season.

Dunno what the costs are though and there must come a time when the financial benefit is marginal (or even negative) - assuming we get granted Falmer later this year.

I know a lot of is made of the fact that 2000 extra seats filled at Withdean would mean 2000 extra seats filled at Falmer so even if the financials came out roughly even (cost of building versus extra revenue) I think that they would still go ahead.

Risk of course is that we don't fill those extra 2000 seats - although as I think we will be challengers in the second diviison, hopefully that would not be a problem

DIFFICULT TO DISAGREE WITH THE ABOVE!

especially now we are a div lower and interest has dwindled and the prices have gone up anyway, i cant see it happening!

The extra income per season, assuming that there is no other increases in cost, would be in the region of £900,000.

Unfortunately, a great deal of that would be spent on the work (you don't get an awful lot of building work for a million nowadays!) and we can safely assume that park and ride costs would go up. We must also remember that any temporary works must be removed before we depart to Falmer.

I would conclude, therefore, that unless Falmer is refused after the enquiry, the seats will not go in, as the marginal costs are too risky.

I can't see how it's down to the club. The judicial complaint has been made against the council, not the Albion so if anyone's dragging their feet it's the council. Councillors are not so interested now that May elections have been and gone.

FG - as you are so keen to always blame the club when quite often it is the local authority at fault, perhaps you are really a local councillor?
