New Cardiff signing Jobi McAnuff was sacrificed by West Ham to fund a bid for two new defenders.
Alan Pardew this week sanctioned McAnuff's transfer to the Bluebirds, for a fee of around £300,000, six months after signing him from Wimbledon.
And the Hammers boss insisted he needed the money to strengthen his defence after skipper Christian Dailly suffered a knee injury.
Pardew said: "The truth of it is that I didn't want to sell Jobi. I felt he could've become a first team regular.
"But the bottom line is I needed a couple of defenders. Christian's injury compounded the issue, so he's been sacrificed."
Lets hope pardew doesnt want cullip.
