I think they were wrong and starting a fight they will not win.

The response of the papers to 'rise above it' somewhat and praise the performance more is clever and makes the players look idiots. They have done this...check out the difference between the first editions and the ones we all got.

They are all happy to take the plaudits and the money from the press when they have new books to sell.

Football is a game of undeserved adoration when things are going well and underserved criticism when things are going badly.

You have to take the rough with the smooth.

Ok, a few people made jokes about James. Big deal. I would settle for that if I were playing for England and earning what he is.

These players do not know they are born.

You cannot manipulate the media the way some do when you want something then turn your back on it when they criticise you.

The Sun donkey story was a joke. Nothing more. Perhaps these players take themselves too seriously.

I get fed up with certain areas of the Press, particuarlly xenophobic idiots like Jeff Powell, but the team went about it in the wrong way and only furthered their perception amongst the fans as over-paid, arrogant tosspots, which most of them aren't. Pissing off the Press is one thing, doing so to the fans is different.

I know what you mean RT but how many fans actually want to watch Beckham say 'you know' 45 times during a post match interview?

I think the James thing was funny although highly unoriginal.

I can see why they did it and I agree with them.

Imagine if Butters refused to play after we put him on ebay?

It is different with the England players. The chances are had James played, he would have played well, as the other players did. That answered their critics and pleased the fans.

Who gives a f*** if they give an after match interview? I'm more bothered about them getting three points.

Totally agree with their stance. It's about time someone stood up to the crap that the tabloids come up with. I haven't got a problem with the cocaine and prostitute exposes - if they're stupid enough to abuse their position by doing that then they deserve everything they get - but some of the shit that the tabloids come up with is pathetic.

Who cares if the players are not quite as well versed in the English Language as some of the more 'intellectual' people in the country. Shakespeare was shit at football, which is why he concentrated on his writing. David Beckham is shit at speaking, which is why he plays football for a living.

If we all left them alone to get on with what they are paid to do, perhaps they would play with a bit more freedom and show us what we know they are capable of.

I think they are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats. You get criticised - big deal, what do you expect? They are international footballers paid god knows how much per week and throwing their toys out of the pram like this just makes them look like they are even further up their own arses than before.

Brilliant stance by the players. I boycotted "The Sun" today in my own little protest.

It made me laugh because it showed these crappy gutter press journalists up for what they are - talentless wankers who can only write an article if they have someone's quotes to manipulate and twist. I Heard an interview with a decent sports writer (henry winter) this morning and he didnt give two hoots that they had boycotted the press, simply because he is talented enough to be able to write a decent match report or article without stooping to such depths as twisting players words. He said the only reason he was upset was because he felt for Defoe as he must have wanted to shout from the hilltops about his goal.

There is criticism, constructive or otherwise, and there is being downright spiteful.

They can voice opinions all day about who they think should or shouldn't be number one keeper but they should not have an article about David James being a donkey.

He has a family who will probably see it.

I'm going to refuse to talk to anyone at work tomorrow because my manager was not very complimentary about me in my performance review.

surely as professional footballers they should take it

you buy the land, you expect the indians...(so to speak). I'm referring to Indians as in the native americans, as in cowboys and indians

they get paid enough. if you perform on a public level, you cant expect everyone to be lovely to you if you screw up or disappoint, especially if you are being paid a f:censored: king fortune.

They are paid to play football, all I care about is whether they win, which they did.

The media like to pretend that the players talk to us through the papers, that is bollocks. I do not have the remotest interest in the "it's great to win/score" or "I am disappointed to have lost/ been sent off/ fornicated with a 47 year old whore whilst off my tits on coke" comments, and neither do many other people. I can happily live without the players talking to the press a lot easier than not seeing England actually play football.

I agree with what they did - the amount of crap the players have had is ridiculous!

BAG, don't you think being in a job that is actually an entertainment for the public, and earning on average about 50k a week, leaves you rightly open to criticism when you under perform.

just a thought.
