Arsenal have announced a new business partnership with Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids

continues with Wenger being quoted to:-

We're trying to extend our brand and we're are also trying to extend our technical cooperation because the Americans might produce some players at some stage and that's why we're doing it.

Personally I thought the "the Americans might produce some players at some stage bit" was a bit harsh seeing as they have been in a couple of world cups now.

how could they NOT qualify for the world cup though? they're hardly up against the creme de la creme of world football are they?

they're produced a couple of half decent players in their whole history

I would have loved Brian McBride in the England side. Best header of the ball in the prem.

Brian McBride, Vastly underated player, almost in his forties and played in the world cup this year so has had no break from proffessional football for nearly two seasons now.

Not heard him or his club say after a bad performance that he needs a rest or is over tired due to the number of games he has played.

He also reminds me of Sherringham when he plays.

An top American footballer just like That bloke who played for Sheff Weds and Seagulls own Tony Meola ( I think his name was, the keeper in the early 90s)

Does anyone else just CRINGE when managers / chief execs refer to their football clubs as being a "brand" ?

Makes it sound like a f***ing WASHING POWDER. A football club isn't just some kind of commodity to be banded about and sold off like some kind of tawdry label.

Oh, hang on...in the case of the "Big Four", I suppose thats exactly what it is.

Ignore me. Carry on.

A quote from the press release"We also hope to help grass roots football in America".......c***s!! What about helping grass roots football in this country.Money grabbing bastards.:censored: :censored:

It seems that of Premiershite managers, only Aidie Boothroyd cares enough about English grass roots football to speak up about it and how it needs more money from the Prem. Granted, he has a vested interest because Watford are on their way back down but at least he's trying to remind people that the sport is severely struggling outside the Premiershite.

There's little reason why there shouldn't be skilled American players. They play the game in school over there, but until recently there wasn't much to promote the game after that.
They have the same capabilities as Europeans, and a humungous country with 260million people or so to pick from.

What will determine the talent of their players for the English league is how they are trained and played when they leave their schools and colleges. The US league is still a bit too low on competitive edge and decent coaching. They are still confusing with gridiron about 'technical' aspects of the game - hence they play too slow, with little physical side - they see the game as low contact, so it's ever-so nicey nice and nobody gets hurt.

The decent US players have become savvy with the European game, and in particular English football.
