That's not the point though is it, what goes on is illegal and therefore by giving that penalty, the referee has probably ensured there will be a bit less of it going on in the next game.

It's not like they weren't warned.

Spot on, for my money (no pun intended).

Well, he had warned them, but refereeing has to be consistent.

If that had just been given against England, then everyone would be going crazy and want the referee to be dead. (Forgotten his name now - refereed England vs. Portugal in 2004)

That is also true. But the rational amongst us would eventually have to concede that he was right.

If that was given, then there should be about 15 a game

Indeed... when you watch the box in the build up to a corner or free kick coming in to the box, you could see 3 or four penalty worthy fouls each time. John Terry is an expert at blocking and barging and using hand-offs.

Wouldn't it be great if the officials picked up on these offences ?, especially as, if they were taking place anywhere else on the pitch it would warrant a free kick. :thud:

Thank you

Saddo ref spotter :p

Sorry :p

I think it stems from the inevitable month's worth of tabloid witch-hunting that inevitably follows England's exit from a major tournament, generally aimed at whichever official or player we misguidedly feel is responsible for cheating us out of our destiny

See also Frisk, Anders (or was that Chelsea??); Ronaldo, Cristiano; Maradona, Diego.

etc :lolol:

Agreed.

If you're going to stamp down on it, do it early on in the game and then be consistent.

Don't think Poland can complain about that result though in the end. Both teams were laughable.

2 poor decisions IMHO. The first goal was offside and the 2nd was totally inconsistent with other decisions. I think referees should give the decisions for holding etc but they need to do it for the entire 90 mins to stamp it out.

What the odds on Austria beating Germany and sending them out the tournament? If they had a decent striker then they might have a chance.

I know its close but great support for Poland, outsang the home fans for 90 minutes.
