Can someone please tell me why Pethick is such a cult figure on this board. I remember his performance at right back against Millwall last year and it was one of the worst displays of the season, he looked hopelessly at sea.

I didn't go to the game yesterday but was at the QPR match. I thought Watto did OK in that game, looked particularly good going forward, even if he did have a couple of shaky moments at that back (but then so did Cullip - even good players make the odd slip in a game). He certainly didn't deserve the torrent of abuse he got the following day.

It's fair enough to criticise when we have good right back in reserve, but when the alternative is far worse, I don't understand why people have a pop.

Still, it always seems to be the way with the Albion, there's always one player who seems to rile supporters, it just happens to Watto's turn at the moment.

I'd say that he's not going to improve if people are on his back all the time

Lack of pace is a big problem at the back. Mayo, Pethick and Watto are all tortoise like tracking back. Any team with a half decent manager and quick wingers is likely to cause us problems.

Am I the only one that thinks that both Watto and Pethick are poor players? Watto has been crap for well over a year now and Pethick has not been much better. Surely we should try to give someone else a go? Hopefully Coppell will ring some changes for Monday. I would be surprised if Dan Harding was not given his first start in the stripes. At least he looks keen and enthusiastic, which is more that Watto does even on one of his rare, average, days.

Anyone know what happened to the young full-back Chris Breach? A couple of years ago he was deemed a really hot prospect, but I haven't heard him being mentioned for some time.
I notice that he's still with the club but his profile's lower than it was.

He must be about 17 now so if he were really any good he'd be battling his way to the first team squad. What happened? Was his reputation over-hyped? Has he failed to develop as expected? Or is he still around and just not in the forefront? Or has he been injured?

Desert Orchid or anyone, what's the score?

The official site is very helpful about Chris Breach...

Chris Breach
Born: Brighton, 19/04/86
Chris can play in defence or midfield, and turned out for the reserves when he was just 15 years old.

---------------

Is it really worth it? Is there nothing more to say about him than that?

Leave watto aloan..he works damned hard for us. Its not like he's on the highest wages, or he's a fat bastard who just stands there and does nuttin. Its not like he speaks to the press to undermine team spirit...give the guy a break, he dont deserve abuse.

Robbie Pethick is a cult hero for obvious reasons.

Yesterday he was shit at right back. As was Watson.

Pethick seemed to be able to whack the ball 800 miles right onto Hendersons head (which thinking about it, may as well be giving the ball away) but couldn't seem to pass to a player 2 inches away from him.

Grrr. Not happy.

i think watto is just off form at the moment and we need to get another right back in on a one month loan whilst watto can work hard in training, see where he was going wrong and then take his place back, if back on form.

"i think watto is just off form at the moment" - loose use of the word "moment" - he's been poor for a couple of years, living off the back of a few well placed free kicks converted by BZ. Yes, he was good at free kicks and can play some half decent passes, but a full back who can't tackle, mark, head or run back. SC is gradually learning with Watson no longer allowed to take corners or free kicks, the clock is ticking.......

And what are they?

I'm sorry but I go to every home game and lots of the away ones and I've not seen anything to convice me that Pethick is any sort of 'hero'. Could you explain yourself?
