Six youths are currently being questioned about the death of Garry Newlove.

His 12 year old daughter wrote him a letter as he lay dying...

To Daddy,

I am unable to see you right now as you are too ill but I know you can fight this as you are a strong, loving man who I know loves me no matter what.

I am asking you to be strong and don't give in as I love you too much to believe that you won't go without a fight.

I had a dream last night that you woke up and you were fine except you didn't know me at all. If that did happen and you didn't know me I would still try to help you remember.

I will stick by you while you are in hospital and I will take care of mummy.

I can't get across to you how much I will miss you and I don't know what I would do without you.

You have always been there for me when I am down and you always put a smile on my face (even if it is a rubbish joke).

You mean the world to me and I wouldn't change you for the world.

When you get out of here I will be there with a big smile on my face.

I hope you can hear me right now as I hope it will give you more strength and determination as to wake up.

I thought I saw nanna Newlove's face in the TV last night and I keep seeing her. I know she is here with you looking out for you and is probably offering cornflakes or Thorntons toffee.

I love you with all my heart so please don't give in. We are all taking care of you and mummy.

We will deeply miss you and I want you to know you are the best dad anyone can ask for. I love you so much and I do hope you can fight this. I love you!

From your darling daughter who loves you so much and from the whole family.

WE LOVE YOU!! AND DON'T GIVE IN!! xxxxxoooooxxx

How many more people have to die, face injury or intimidation from these scum. We must get tough and we must get tough now!

Heart breaking.

Saw some of pasnorama tonight. Seems like some of the kids today are just a waste of space and have no concept of pain.

I fear this is beyond our reach.

Scum live and breed in society, the must have society has taken over and has no respect for their elders or fellow breathren.

We have a society of disaffected youths who now turn to gang culture as the only means of life.

Maybe as parents we have have failed and perhaps they are alienated by our government policys and a divided society of the haves and the have nots.

Until punishments fit crimes, this will continue. There is no serious deterrent whatsoever to turning to crime in this country.

My flatmate was watching 'Teenage Mums' and some of the behaviour by them was astounding. These little kids are being sworn at in their formative years and blamed for ruining mother's life, it is no wonder that a lot of kids grow up with aggressive problems. There is so little respect left on the streets that it is getting to the stage of no return.

There are so many factors in this. One of the major factors is surely the selling off of school fields. Angst, energy and aggression is not being spent in school and is transferred to the home.

I just watched itand didn't see any of that. One 15 year old girl threw a tantrum, her daughter was too young to understand her. The rest of them seemed ok.

I say bring back capital punishment.

A lot of the milder cases are tried in magistrates courts. Magistrates differ widely in their sentencing as there are choices. eg Community service or imprisonment.

How many people on Nsc would be prepared to train and become magistrates?

The large blonde one who got accused of being rough with her little daughter, then took her upstairs to listen to some Reggae. I thought kids were sensitive to aggression as opposed to the actual content.

I don't disagree, but you implied that they were all doing it, when it was just one girl. To be even more pedantic, she was listening to r&b ;)

Sorry Yorkie, but what has that got to do with the price of eggs? What does it matter how many magistrates there are, when their hands are tied about what sentences they dish out?

That was my whole point. Some magistrates will give out harsh sentences which could well deter some youngsters and others will give conditional discharges for the same crimes.

Have to agree we are talking prevention before this happens not the aftermath

True but when they get to court and get a slap on the wrist it hardly deters their peers.

The point of this thread is to prevent it happening in the first place and reclaim the streets therefore re-educate these people and stop them offending in the first place not what sentance they get.

Ah right, so we're just talking about what everyone else should do. Sit back and blame the parents or the teachers or something.

The thread title said 'We' I thought it was something that we could do.

Have to admit that stories like that make me really angry, here was a bloke who was just doing what he thought was right to stop some scrotes from damaging property, the next thing you have a poor young girl robbed of her father. There appears to be a section of society who have abosolutely no respect for anything, be that people, property or even themselves...I find that extremely sad.

Alright then what else can we do.

I actually said to my kids whilst away in Cyprus I would hate to be them when they have kids as their kids expectation would be in the stratosphere !

I just don't get it as kids expect everything these days - no thank yous, no thanks for the holiday to the parents they really do get it all and perhaps we are wrong as parents spending some of our disposable income on them - who knows !

Should I turn round to them and say no you can't have this or that ?
