ALBION fans have been told to be patient about the club's quest to land a proven target man.

Manager Mark McGhee has warned the Seagulls may be forced into a waiting game to sign the striker who will fire a promotion bid from League One.

Preston's Danny Dichio and Norwich's Peter Thorne head the wanted list after Sheffield United indicated Neil Shipperley is part of their squad plans for the Premiership.

A French trialist will also be joining the squad for training next week as McGhee hunts for a goalscorer.

McGhee said: "We could look for somebody that has plodded around at this level and fits the bill and might do allright but might not.

"I'm actually trying to sign somebody like Shipperley or Dichio. That's the sort of player I'd like to bring and that's the sort of player I think the fans would appreciate.

"What the fans cannot do is get impatient. I am determined to try to get somebody who is really going to make a difference, so we are just going to have to sit tight.

"The problem is you've got new managers going into clubs who are going to look at things before they make decisions. Others are going to look at pre-season before they make decisions and therefore some of these players may not be available until several weeks into pre-season."

Albion were interested in Dichio last season. The recent departure of boss Billy Davies could have a bearing on his future at Deepdale.

Norwich are willing to listen to offers for Thorne, a proven goalscorer with Stoke and Cardiff prior to his injury-plagued move to Carrow Road.

Maybe DK will leave MM to find the striker he wants rather than signing someone himself on the recommendation of a youth team manager of another club this year.

Dichio would be a top quality signing, I think he is a bit out of our league though.

I think signing Dichio would be a massive statement of intent by Dick and the club and could well see us mount a serious challenge at the right end of the table.

However, whether or not we will or can afford him or him want to come here is another matter

I think we would possibly fail on the second point. I think we could afford him.

Think we would struggle to attract a player of his standard to come here.

Soon as other clubs knew he was available alot of Championship clubs would be interested.

Maybe Thorne is a better bet ?

Quite possibly, I think Dichio will end up in League 1 this season but not with us.
Thorne would be a decent signing should he not get injured too much,

If he does end up in league one i reckon we have a decent chance, he will know he will be a regular starter.

I still think he can do a job at Championship level and i'm sure clubs like QPR, Plymouth and the like would be interested

Maybe, Im not really sure that he will be up to championship level next season.

I think maybe he could end up at Forest or Bristol City before us then maybe we have a chance.

:lolol: I just saw this article and LAUGHED! How can we be told to stay patient when we have been waiting for a decent target man for at least 2 years?! Anyone would think MM was feeling under pressure to finally sign a half decent striker :jester:

We were looking at Shipperly and Dichio last season and they wouldn't come here, why would they now we've been relegated?

A season on....Lack of first team football.

I wish some of these wealthy players would end their careers at Brighton. Come on Shearer, out of retirement you come son. Get some fresh sea air and fire us back to the championship.

Shipperly sounds like he's still in sheff utd's plans for next year so we cant get him. Dichion could still easily cut it at championship level imo and there is no reason for him to come here unless he still has family/house down south from his millwall days. MM can talk all he wants about quality strikers but he actually needs to sign one.

I dont think its the fact they wouldn't come here, Its the fact that their respective clubs didn't let them
