Haven't watched the Albion since the first couple of games of the season but thought it was worth sharing my observations from Saturday's game.
Ist goal conceded - very poor communication from Watson and Hart where both of them followed the ball and left the thrower with all the time in the world to get a quality cross in.
Kuipers - didn't do much wrong, not at fault with the 2 goals and made a coupleof good saves late on. Kicking was pretty average.
Watson - at fault for first goal, seemd to have a bit of a hard time with their wing play, as did Mayo some of the time.
Cullip and Butters - seemed to work together reasonably weel - Butters takes things in the air (and wins 90%) and Cullip takes the runners or the full back cover play. Thought they looked a bit troubled by McKenzie when running at pace but we know he is a quality player.
Pethick and Carpenter - absent in the first half, they were either bypassed from the back or couldn't hold onto the ball. Carpenter did a bit better in the second half actually putting his foot on the ball and passing it around a bit more confidently.
Jones and Hart - a few good quality crosses and Nathan Jones does his best work in the final third but poor link play in first 2/3rds of the pitch doesn't help Mayo out a great deal. OGH put in a few quality crosses but at fault for first goal.
Knight and McPhee - more impressed by McPhee as the game went on - he seemed to get more confident, made a couple of nice turns and almost scored with a nice chip cum curl shot in the second half. Knight took his goals well - looked dangerous whenever he had the ball at his feet facing goal. Unfortunately he was too often given ball with his back to goal where he is not as dangerous, although a couple of times he turned well to create things. Not sure he and McPhee really work together as a front pair that much, need to work on that.
Any thoughts - a draw was a fair result I thought - we weren't that great but did enough not to deserve to lose. When it went 2-2 we looked like we could win it but the last 5 mins we were hanging on a bit.
Mark McGhee has a bit to work on. Why wasn't Rehman used??
