Having decided to buy a tent off ebay the other day I am now erecting it in the garden so that

a) I know all the parts are there, and
b) I don't look like a complete novice when I turn up to pitch for the first time.

Having spent the last 30 minutes "assembling" it, I've managed to insert the three main poles and that's about it. I am now having a cup of tea thinking I'll leave this to the wife to sort out.

Why do they make tent assembly so damn difficult? Any suggestions guys?

If it's similar to the 500, why not ask "Laughing Gravy" - Vango Tent for sale - who claims "the few poles that is has got are colour coded and it is very easy to erect"

Interestingly when I bought it the guy said it was easy to erect. Starting to have my doubts.

For best entertainment value, only erect in force 4 or more. My Vango Aurora 400 is one of the best in this respect, first erected by me and a 10 year old five years ago. We are getting proficient at it now. :glare:

Erecting tent is a very basic man-skill that you should all have, surely?

I am pleased to announce that after approx. 2 hours of hard graft, the wife managed to get the tent up to a standard of about 8/10. She knows she has to do better next time. Thanks for all your support. :bigwave:

Well you certainly put me in my place!

I do however have a Kirk Douglas style cleft chin - resembling a c**t - If you fancy.

I may have been a bit harsh, but you did wind me up at the wrong time. Forget it and move on . . .

I apologise. No worries friend. We all support the same team.

And to be honest, I'm just a bit jealous because I've been locked up on the 14th floor for 18 months and I miss the countryside.

I'd love to be planning a trip the to the wilds with my kin. I wish you well.

I used to work in a camping store and having to errect tents for display or to show customers how easy it was became my worst nightmare-however it is true that once you have done it a few times-it gets easier.
Also well done for not making the novice mistake of not putting it up before you arrive: then discovering that it is missing a part!
Try sleeping in it for a night in the garden as it will probably give you a better idea of things you need to take with you.
