I think they are laying the system but not connecting it up. As the conditions for it to be used don't occur frequently enough. :lolol:

Originally the club announced that the pipes would be laid under the pitch, but no undersoil heating would be used.

This decision was reversed after the postponed match last February, I'll see if I can find the argus story...

Albion heat it up at Falmer

10:32pm Friday 20th February 2009

By Andy Naylor »

Albion are not letting the grass grow under their feet as the new stadium at Falmer starts to take shape.

The Board have taken a £300,000 U-turn by deciding to install under-soil heating during construction.

They were planning to rely on pitch covers, with ducting and piping built-in for an under-soil system if it was required at a later date.

The cost, however, could then have risen to £1 million and the recent cluster of postponements has prompted a change of heart.

Chief executive Martin Perry said: “Clubs in the Premier League have to have some form of protection in place for pitches and can be fined if matches are called off because of cold weather.

“We have ambitions to play at the top level but, even before then, this may be something the Football League decides to introduce at lower levels, so we need to be prepared.”

Even under-soil heating would not have saved the recent Withdean postponement against Peterborough.

“Of course, the issue is not only the pitch,” Perry said. “The problem can be the roads leading up to the stadium.

“Even with heating the Peterborough game would have been off, so you can’t completely solve the problem.

“However, at Falmer, with covered stands and a heated pitch we will have a much better chance to play matches in very cold conditions.”

My brother maybe supplying some of the pipe work so he tells me.

He was an Albion fan as a kid but turned into a scouse in the Seventies, can't think why!

The main thing is his interest in his childhood club is being reunited with Falmer on the horizon and the chance to take his boys to regular football.

Matches are not only postponed due to the pitch; in many cases it is the safety aspect of supporters in and around the ground, which is beyond the controls of anybody at the club.

Its under stand heating and concourse heating that is required these days. Games are called off because of the risk to the 50k supporters turning up at the at the game.

8k supporters risking it is OK, but if someone turning up at a Chelski game slipped and bruised their arse, there would be compensation to pay rising into the 100's thousands

...does that mean that the stuff is "hot" already, without the need to plug it in to anything?
