Turkey holiday dilemma

I am going to be in the idyllic coastal retreat of Oludeniz, near Fetihye for the week to 6th October on a first trip to Turkey, just a few days before the big one. Interesting timing - but should I take my normal holiday red England shirt? Would this be suicidal? Shall I try and talk to the locals in a friendly way about the prospects in Istanbul, or pretend I hate football for the week? Who should you believe, the 'Turks are all psychopathic killers', or 'they're the friendliest hosts in Europe', which is what a lot of holidaymakers seem to think?

They won't care. The Turks are really friendly and hardly likely to shoot themselves in the foot by pissing off their customers.

Make sure you get along to Fethiye, it's a really nice little town and more interesting than Olu Deniz.

I probably wouldn't take your England shirt - apart for giving to the missus to wear when you give her a celebratory seeing too after England win. ;)

I don't think a Turkey shirt would go down very well in Brighton on that Saturday (or any other day really) and if it all goes wrong, then the usual meat heads will break the windows of kebab shops etc - so it may well be the same over there. I wouldn't want to take the risk persoanlly.

I had a dream about being in Turkey in mt Albion shirt on the day of the game and seeing loads of others in the stripes. England won and the Turks all went home leaving us to enjoy a beer, the bar i was in looked like the Roundhill.

Don't take England, take stripes:clap:

Olu Deniz is lovely - make sure you get to the beaches on the lagoon. The next one down from Bob's beach has a huge TV by the bar which shows football all the time

They love the English and you won't get any of the lunatics you might come across in Istanbul.

Hisaronu is also nice - a bit more lively than Olu Deniz and about 10 mins on the Dolmus

Turkey is a lovely place, and the locals are the friendliest that I have ever met. They are the complete opposite from the football hooligans you see at the football matches. They feed you apple tea, and if you are going with any females, they will try and marry her off to one of the gents (the English are VERY rich compared to them).

If it's a small resort then I don't think you'll have a problem as (hopefully) there will be no hooligans. However, to be on the safe side, you might be better off taking your Brighton shirt.

as 10cc say, not in hove
you'll have a fine time toots and i wouldn't worry about the england shirt.

i've just got back from bodrum and saw the match last wednesday night there...lots of folks in england shirts, including a good number of turks who seem to think they're a fashion item. not even a hint of bad feeling, let alone trouble.

nice bunch the turks....

Turkey is a shite hole of a country with some of the worst human rights issues in the world, where innocent torture seems to be the national past time. I for one wouldn't give any of my money to their government, vote with ya feet and STAY AWAY !!
