Newbie here...

Excuse my ignorance, as it'll be my first time at the Withdean (I'm down here at Uni, and have been getting quite into following Brighton recently!)
I was wondering if anyone could recommend the best way to get to the stadium by bus from Falmer?

I don't know the town very well at all, and the only route I know that goes directly to the stadium is the park and ride which doesn't run late enough anyway.

Thanks very much!

Usually there is quite a wait before collection, I suggest you get there at 7ish. What I personally would do is get a train from Falmer to Brighton, and then Brighton to Preston Park (all trains stop at Preston Park before and after the match), and then just walk straight up the muddy track to the Withdean, or straight down the road and then along London Road. There'll be a big crowd of people there, so you'll be fine.
Or by bus, just get the 25 to St Peters Church, cross over the road and get a 5/5a.

pity you are going to pick up the ticket from Withdean as the travel voucher would allow free travel either on the train or bus. I think the easiest way there is by bus , 25 to St Peters church and then a 5/5a along London Road. The problem is after the match if no additional buses are laid on and you have to wait ages for a timetabled number 5. If you are going on the train its about a 10 minute walk from PP to the ground via the muddy track (dont wear expensive shoes if you go this way)

The club do run additional buses from Surrenden Field (bottom of Tongdean Lane) to George Street in hove, so there are plenty of buses heading in Brighton after the match, and the 25 is 24 hours a day, so that wouldn't be a problem, and it would probably be the best idea, trains from Brighton to Falmer in the evening aren't exactly frequent, certainly not as frequent as the 25.

I always get the Seaford train, (getting off at Falmer) after evening games. No problem.

A 1 day citySAVER ticket is £3.60 but be wary if you need to catch a bus back to Falmer late at night because the N25 will cost an extra £1 which arrives at St Peters church at 23.52 (buses before that run as number 25's). After midnight the citySAVER is no longer valid.

Fair play to you mate, getting into following the Albion just as we've been playing some of our worst football in years :lolol:

Welcome, and may you experience many happy years with us in the future . Hey, at least the new stadium will be handy for you.

Where are you from originally, do you have a team at home?

On the way back, he can use the voucher on his match ticket though, so won't have to pay anything?

Some bus drivers don't even ask to see your match ticket if they can see you're obviously going to the football- I've heard of plenty of people getting away with telling the driver they're picking up their ticket at the ground.

Edna, he would need to use 2 buses to get to the Withdean, so the saver is essential. You might get away with telling one bus driver you're picking it up, but unlikely 2. Unless you have any old stumps, the guy who posted this thread. Probably not though.

Why thank you.

Seagullsovergrimsby gives good advice, get yourself back to the Uni quick as you can after the game, after midnight they charge £2.50 for a SINGLE fare. But they knock off a pound if you have a valid saver ticket, how lovely.

When I retunred from Swindon at 3am one morning, I either had a 2 hour wait for a train to Hove, a journey in a taxi or the extortionate bus fare. I walked.

It's probably alot more frequent than I thought actually mate, I forget the Seaford trains stop there in the evening, you won't have a problem.

In future though, it's better to get your ticket from the club shop on Queens Road, then you'd get free travel to and from the match.

It all depends on whether the bus driver is wearing a swastika armband or has ambitions of being a steward at Withdean.

You could just wait a couple of years, and walk across the road to see the Albion.

Welcome, by the way. Nice to see students from out of town become interested in the Albion.

We have a spanner on here who went to University in Wolverhampton. Aside from his unintentional comedy value when he comes on here, they're welcome to him.

If you get the bus, you'll might be able to blag it free by saying you're getting your ticket at the stadium, whereas this is unlikely on the train.

 I was actually going to use Brightonian in my user name but for some reason I changed it at the last minute.

You could always quickly set up a new account , I'm sure nobody will notice. Much easier than asking than getting Bozza (the GodMod) to amend it.

I actually come from Northampton, but support Rushden & Diamonds, which is why I chose tonights game as my first, as I have double the reason to want Brighton to win!

Diamonds will always be the team I love (well, while we still have a team to watch ??? ), but being a lover of local lower league football I've got quite into following Brighton as a 'second team' I guess.
