Training Ground Exhibition Tomorrow
Posted on: Mon 23 Jan 2012

By Will Jago

Albion Chief Executive, Martin Perry, and Head of Operations, Richard Hebberd, together with members of the design team, will be showcasing the club's new Training Ground and Academy at a public exhibition to be held at Lisher Road, Lancing tomorrow - 2pm until 10pm.

Local residents are invited to come along and view the proposed designs for the state-of-the-art facilities to be built at New Monks Farm, which are hoped to be in operation for the beginning of 2014.

The exhibition will take place at a vacant office unit, near 10 Lisher Road (BN15). Local residents have also been sent leaflets inviting them to the event.

I'm gonna pop along now, I hope there are scale models. I like models, and maps, and plans. Will report on anything interesting!
Please do. I'll be interested to know if the access road is going to be Mash Barn Lane, or the track off the westbound A27 (immediately before the car showroom)

Through Mash Barn Lane, Apparently they cant get permission from the land owner to come in off the A27.

Is the correct answer.

I went and had a look, it was in a disused office block with about 4 or 5 rooms being used. 2 or 3 of the rooms had pin boards up with plans of the the training complex pinned up, quite interesting to see how the first team/development squad/academy each have their own separate dining areas, relaxation rooms, gyms etc. It is set on two levels with various sized pitches and an indoor pitch at the rear of the building (as we know from looking at the published plans!) There was a person in each room listening to various peoples concerns. It really is more of a 'locals' thing, not so much showing off the plans but aimed at explaining to people how they hope to keep disruption down to a minimum. In one room they had a model of the complex ( :) ) with a guy from the architects answering questions. I only stayed for around 10 minutes, most of the conversation seemed to concentrate on the access issues and the fact that it will be accessible from Mash Barn lane. One guy said 'why don't you just pay someone a million pounds for the land so it can be accessed from the a27' another couple said' well if it's gone this far there is nothing we can do about it' and one guy even agreed with me when i said i thought it was a great idea and would put lancing on the map! Lots of people not happy about the fact that it won't be accessed from the A27 and I kind of see their point. One guy who was not happy said, when asked if he would rather his house overlook the training pitches or 600 houses said 600 houses! He left shortly after that comment. Martin Perry was there, as were several coppers, but that was about it! There was a book filled with sketches, maps, plans etc which I flicked through which all looked very pretty, nothing that we haven't really seen before. I did take a couple of pics but only on my iphone and it was surprisingly dark in there!

I heard a comment about paying someone a million pounds for some land so it could be accessed from the A27, We must have been in the room at the same time. ( If we were I was the fella trying to get round in the wheelchair. )

Yes mate I was in the black superdry jacket with the bored looking kid :)

Do you live in the area then? I live on the other side of the plans, under the approach for the runway just off the sea front road.

Do you think I missed anything with regards to my description of the event?

I think that says everything about these people, much like some of the morons who opposed the Amex for so long and tried to kill our club.

I did see you and the bored looking kiddy  I live on the Mash Barn estate just around the corner from where the exhibition was held, My house backs onto the field they want to build on but sadly the accademy will be at the other end of the field to where I live so I wont be able to watch the players train. You've got it spot on with your description. I spoke to a number of locals while I was there and nobody I spoke too is against the accademy being built they're just concerned if it happens it will open the floodgates for the rest of the land being developed into housing. They're more concerned with protecting the strategic gap than stopping the Albion.

One thing I just remembered is that the proposed golf course (I think they might have even started work on it) adjacent to the training facility will no longer go ahead as the planning permission has expired or something along those lines? I do genuinely feel that the locals are more concerned with the volume of traffic that will occur during the build. I cant really see there being much of an issue regarding traffic once it's complete.
