Tottenham - Figo

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club line up sensation!

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are reportedly lining up a sensational bid for one of the games’ true greats.

The Londoners are desperate to close the currently-huge gap between themselves and the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, and are eager to do so as quickly as possible.

With a new coaching setup in place fronted by Jacques Santini, the club has taken more appeal in recent months, and they are now using this appeal to lure one of the greatest players in Europe.

The player in question is Luis Figo of Real Madrid, who has been linked in the Spanish press with a move to White Hart Lane next summer – or possibly during the January transfer window.

The Portuguese playmaker is in his last season at the Bernabeu and will not be offered a new contract, meaning he is available to negotiate his own Bosman transfer for next season.

However, reports suggest Spurs are anxious to bring Figo in as soon as possible, and Santini is apparently considering bringing him to London in the New Year.

Even if it was true, i think he is too old.

Bullshit, he'll go to Qatar for the money, as would I.

Really would you though ? He must have more money than he could ever spend already.

Id rather retire than go there.
England must be a good option for him he could earn a shit load over here anyway.

But if he comes here and fails which he will at Spurs he will remembered for being crap. If he goes to Qatar he will not be expected to be good, but just a name.

Spurs are a joke. Every summer there is a story about them signing someone like Rivaldo / Morientes / Figo. And who do they end up with ? Shite like Postiga and...some other striker. Ahem.

I couldn't believe all the hype and euphoria about Santini going there either. My nan could pick that French team, and he still did crap with them anyway. Santini will be back flying Airwolf within the year, you mark my words.

Tottenham - Figo

chalk (cheap school variety) - cheese (a perfect Gorgonzola)

FFS, I hope Hargreaves doesnt go to spurs, he's a good promising English midfielder with the ability to win tackles cleanly, the last thing he needs is to end his career in the sick room at one of Londons little clubs :shootself

Talk is cheap - Tottenham are crap in Premiership terms, they have plummeted down the rankings, and now don't have a hope in hell of signing players like Figo. They need players in their prime to start emulating the Arsenal's and Manure's of this world, not somebody who is looking for one last big contract.

Well since he took over after the World Cup, if you count not losing against Slovenia, Israel, Cyprus and Malta to qualify for Euro 2004, plus whatever they achieved in friendlies, then yes I suppose he's a GREAT manager ?

Look, plenty of national coaches in charge of major international teams can point at a decent looking "defeats" column (just look at Eriksson). Doesn't make them the bee's knee's in management. Of more relevence is their record in club football. To be fair, Santini did take Lyon to the French League title, and errr...thats it.

He's probably a decent enough coach, but I don't think anyone at Spurs can point to his "achievements" with France with any degree of excitement. Anyone at Spurs expecting them to all of a sudden be pushing for Europe under Santini this season is in for a very rude awakening. Still, should be fun watching.

Tottenham are at the bottom of a deep gulley. Its taken them 10 years to gradually get as bad as they are, but on the up side they WILL be as good as they once where - only bad thing is that it may take a further 10 years. Hope they get back to where they belong - as one of Englands top and most attractive footballing teams.

Up side ?
I'm quite happy where they are thank you. I've never liked Spurs, and get great enjoyment from their crapness. Long may it continue.

Why do you get enjoyment out of it???? I get quite sad about the demise of Spurs. All football fans should at least appreciate Spurs as one of the greatest Footballing sides England has ever seen (60's,70's).

But then some quite like Man Ure because appareantly they are a good team to watch. Although I cant watch them without wanting to fight!!!
