I see Channel 4 are having another one of their countdowns this weekend. 9.00 - 11.00 Saturday and Sunday night is the all time 100 scariest scenes on film and TV, as voted by viewers etc.

Cos I'm quite sad, I'll probably be in watching both of these. I like trying to guess what the top 3 will be. Anyway, for what its worth, here's my guess on the top 3.

3. The tidal wave of blood in The Shining, cut with flashes of those mutilated twin girls (nasty and disturbing).

2. The final moments of the Blair Witch Project (even though the rest of the film was gubbins).

1. The ending to The Ring (I nearly shat myself in the cinema).

Anyone else ?

I almost soiled my pants watching American werewolf in London when I was 13.

It was only 10 or so years later that I realised it is really a dark comedy.

Is that the Japanese or US version?

But wholly agree with that.

What exactly was scary about the Exorcist?

The Shining is the scariest film I've ever seen but for me, the real terror is the little boy on his tricyle ( filmed at his level - special device invented just for the fliming of that scene) going around thse long, deserted corridors and bumping into those two girls. Very frightening.

I was disappointed that "Don't look now" wasn't higher. A superb film in it's own right ( great sex scene with julie chrsitie) and geniunely frightening. When Donald Sutherland gets stabbed.. !!!

Watched this, quite enjoyed it - although disembodied scenes are never the scariest. True terror requires the whole film to ratchet up the tension.

For what it's worth, my top three:

1.Ring (utterly terrifying)
2.Les Diaboliques (true genius)
3.Nosferatu (nothing since has ever been so darn creepy)

But the single scariest moment in cinema is the moving sack in Audition. I shat my pants - during one of the sickest, most stomach-churning films you will ever see

Ring: f***ing scary. Should have won.
The Ring (Crappy American Re-make): Nothing compared to original.

As Josky said in another thread though, I bet Ring was only there because of people who've only seen the American version...

Can't agree there. I found that whole film utter and complete bollocks. Boring, dull and at no point scary. It is without doubt the biggest let down of any film I've ever seen - and that is a lot of films!

I think the scariest moment I've seen in film was in a film who's title escapes me. Nicki Sterling was faced with taking all 20 of the men in the room, in each and every orafice. I was scared for her I can tell you. But she pulled it off, and looked pleased with herself in the end. You could say she was the cat who got the cream.

Marvellous scenes.

Wherever The Mood Takes Me
Psycho (the original B&W version and not just the shower scene)

The Exorcist (scary shit, because its meant to be a true story & and coz its the supernatural)

Arachnophobia ( because I'm shit scared of spiders!!)

Worst 3

The Blair Witch
The Ring (Remake)
Jeepers Creepers ( what a shower)
