Colchester U. 0 - 1 Swindon T.

87' Mooney

An 87th minute strike from Tommy Mooney proved the only goal between Colchester and Swindon at Layer Road on Friday evening.

The first half was an evenly matched affair but few would argue that the visitors ultimately deserved to take the three points after Mooney and Sam Parkin exerted ever-increasing pressure in the second half.

U's winger Joey Keith had the home side's best chance of the first half. Put through for a one-on-one with Swindon keeper Bart Griemink, Keith slid it past the advancing Dutchman and his right-hand post.

At the other end, Mooney forced a fine save from Simon Brown after a good cross from Sammy Igoe.

Craig Fagan was the star show for the home fans but as the second half drew on it was Swindon and Mooney who began to get the upper hand and after a period of dominance for the visitors, the former Birmingham and Watford forward chased a long ball from defence before crashing a finish past Brown.

The momentum had been with Andy King's men for long enough at that point that, having failed to weather the storm, Colchester lacked the spirit and organisation to strike back.
