Seagulls take over Withdean operation

They have been playing there since 1999, but Saturday's clash against Hartlepool marks the start of a new era for Albion at Withdean.

The Seagulls will be running the match day operation themselves for the first time.

The leisure contract for Brighton and Hove Council has switched hands from Ecovert to DC Leisure Management.

Martin Perry, Albion's chief executive, said: "They take over Withdean today, we take responsibility today for safety matters for all events at Withdean and from Saturday onwards we are responsible for the stadium on a match day."

Richard Hebbard becomes operations manager, while David Ashley retains his role as chief safety officer but is now working for the club.

Around 130 staff have transferred from Ecovert to Albion. Stewards will have the club name and badge on their fluorescent orange jackets and the ground maintenance team have a new dark blue uniform.

Catering has changed hands from Kings Cuisine to Godalming-based Alexanders Catering, the company which provides food at Brighton Racecourse.

Perry estimates the new arrangement will save Albion £10,000 per match.

Oh and also, if the Albion now run the stewards, I assume they will be a bit more aggressive about people sitting down, as before I assume they would warn people but then have to go through a process of informing their office and then Albion of the guilty party and then ban em. Now they work for the club so getting rid of the middleman.

Better sit down sharpish

Thank God, no more "Kings Cuisine" (what a grand name!). Hopefully the burgers won't be 95% horse lips'n'fanny any more.

Actually, the catering is hospitality is pretty good as football catering goes. Was talking to a Spurs fan recently who was a guest of someone I know, and he goes to a lot of Premiership grounds. He certainly puts Albion's catering right up there among the best for quality. The food is served hot and is actually quite tasty. I hope that the new company can match or even exceed King's Cuisine. That would be an achievement.

The burger vans are probably a different matter altogether. They smell vile, they're a rip off, and I always pass them by.

This 'DC Leisure Management' - is it Danny Cullip? Is that why he's not playing tomorrow?

Anyway, £10K per match is a significant saving and, at a minimum of £230K per season, could be a couple of new players.

Alexanders are a very good caterers - their food is excellent - we use them at both Fontwell and Brighton Racecourses

Don't get too excited as I think you'll find this part of the contract only starts at the beginning of next season ..... still a few matches "horses lips'n'fanny " ( great description !! )

I hope the hospitality catering does not change - on the occassions I have been, the food has been absolutely first class.

When the Albion went to Withdean they had to negotiate a contract with Ecovert South who were contracted by Brighton and Hove City Council to run the stadium.

These French bastards have screwed the Albion for every penny they could get including I believe a substatial cut of all the advertising revenue from around the ground.

50% of the revenue from each match at Withdean was going on overheads, although not all to ES.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn that for everytime you spent a penny in our celubrious loos Ecovert demanded 2p !!!

Remember ES also had the conract to supply catering to Brighton and Hove City Council, Whenever the latter had a meeting and wanted to give guests tea and biscuits Ecovert were charging for a plate of biscuits...........£14 !!!! YES - 14 QUID A PLATE !!!

No wonder everyone is glad to see the back of them especially Albion's Bank Manager !!!!

(hey, this is BRILLIANT, quite forgot we had a hot-line into the Brighton racecourse complaints department - back of the net!)

Oi! Trotster! Sort it out!

Brighton might well now have the longest bar in the land but sadly it's the same three bar-staff with blinkers fitted who are serving behind it. Unless a punter is standing EXACTLY in front of them, they don't get served. Sort of a waste of time having a big long bar innit? Maybe have a word with someone to get the bar-staff to look a wee bit ALONG the bar this season, and - hey! - hire another half dozen bar staff, you'll sell more beer and - hey! - make more profit.

You have not been charged for this post
