Thoughts from a Burnley fan.....

Here's the thoughts on the match from a Burnley fan I work with, he seems pretty pissed with the whole situation at the club at the moment:

We were 5th in the league just after Christmas, however the squad was/is threadbare.

The club are stated to be losing £20k per week. We had a substitute keeper on loan from Derby, but sent him back earlier this month 'cos we couldn't afford his wages.

Akinbiyi was suspended for the Nobbers match, where we had loads of possession but never looked like scoring. Cotterill was clearly upset after the match passing comments such as his ambition was to manage a club where he was in charge of player movements. Akinbiyi was then sold for £1.75M which it's stated is good business for the club - cost £600k less than a year ago.

It was stated by the chairman that the majority of the money would be available to the manager for fees/wages.

Players believed to be coming in were:

Michael Ricketts loan from Leeds
Andy Grey - fee from Sunderland
Wootton - fee from Plymouth
Lowe loan from Wolves.

Deals for 2 were allegedly done and dusted with completion 30th Jan, the others were targets.

Yesterday Leicester sought permission to speak with Cotterill, which was declined. I assume that Leicester had previously tapped him up. Cotterill used to Coach at Leicester, 18 months ago.

We only signed Ricketts, variously described by Leeds fans as idle, lardyarsed and a pie eater. I think he is a confidence player and there is potential, but no immediate threat to you.

The assumption is that Cotterill is going to Leicester, the money is not being provided to him if he's going. We haven't got a striker worthy of the name.

At this stage I'd be delighted to be playing Burnley at home. We've been conceding too many. Wayne Thomas has come back too early and isn't fit.

If we have the 1st choice defence (Duff, McGreal, Sinclair, Harley), 0-0 looks favourite, otherwise favour you.

3 years ago uner Ternant Burnley were totally broke, they then go and sign loads of players, such as Akinbye, and then start moaning that they are totally broke?

Suppose at least they actually still sign some players unlike us.

Just spoken with a Burnley colleague who normally predicts pretty accurately. He is convinced they will not score, he's just hoping that we can't either so reckons on a 0-0.

I'm sure we can find it in us to gift them a goal (or the ref can) 2-1 us

i thought we were the better team at burnley this season away but played quite conservatively.

last season away at burnley i was shocked to see a line of supporters on the pitch that the team ran through when they came on... apparently these supporters had all donated £1000 to the club yet they had just spunked £600,000 on akinbyi...

i spend quite a lot of time in that part of the world and everybody is a burnley fan, it's not like us with no team for 50 miles. it's a football town and they have big big history but none of the supporters can afford to go, its probably £15 a ticket and people can't afford to take the whole family down.

people might argue, but they are sleeping demi-giants
