Never really understood this one? Seems a bit of a pointless chant. They obviously know who they are???

It is an insult as in - who the f*** are you? You are a nobody.

ok, never really joined in with this one as always think, why the f*** are we singing this!!, when its sung to us, I think "tossers"!! hence why I never sing it back!

Also the North stand have started singning a new "tune" goes on a bit, but sounds ok, any idea what that one is? (might not be new, but I have not heard it before)

This board prefers the nancy songs I suspect.

Who are ya chant is a good song when like any song . . it is used at the right time

I would certainly say the majority know who they were but it's highly likely some of them won't. Besides but we're asking them to tell us who they are. I think it's a pretty reasonable question but I've never heard anyone answer which is very rude indeed

Timing.

It's a mark of LACK of respect, like we sang at Mark Hughes' Man City a couple of seasons ago beating them out of the cup. It can say "we don't fear your reputation".
If fans sing it at us, I think we can take it as a compliment that we are on the map enough for fans to want to talk us down - unless they are less known than us, like that United Jr. side who were beating us in the cup at Withdean sang (among all the other excellent songs they constantly sang).
Didn't our fans sing it at Beckham when he made his debut? That would seem inapropriate when a player is truly an unknown anyway.

I think that was because the announcer at the goldstone called him david blackham and he was only 17 so we didnt actually know who he was.

If we didn't know who he was, and no-one else apart from his club knew who he was, it was a bit pointless to simply confirm it to a substitute.
I think there were several songs that fans sang without thinking just because they heard them from other club fans.

When Tomasz Koozach signed for us he said something along the lines of 'I hadn't heard of Brighton'...which was a little surprising seeing as he'd played us twice in Watford colours the season before.

In that case maybe it should be Who are we?

if my memory serves me well it was sung because we didnt know who he was as an unknown sub for man U - i think the goldstone faithful were trying to be ironic - its ironic that he turned out to be perhaps the most iconic footballer of the generation!

Yes, I often reflected on that irony.
When I played in a team I had the similar position and hopes for my crossing and placing abilities!
So he's long been a favourite player especially for England.
At least his debut was at our place.
Legend.
