Uncle Spielberg said:Chapman, Uncle Buck , MOH, Les Biehn and other such whippasnappers should listen to Rattus Norvegicus and they would realise the error of their ways in listening to all the strange and weird " music " they do
Trufflehound said:Agreed. "Live X-Cert" is brilliant, but every time I saw them (about 4 times) they were dreadful. Maybe I was just unlucky.
They were truly appalling supporting The Who at Wembley in 1979.
Tricky Dicky said:If I remember correctly that was the gig with AC/DC, Stranglers, Nils Lofgren and The Who. The same day as albions first day in the old first division when we lost 4-0 at highbury. I was there - at Wembley that, not Highbury !
Trufflehound said:Yup. That was the one. Except we lost at home, not at Highbury. Huge Cornball only spoke to the audience twice. The first thing he announced was "If you're a Brighton fan they lost 4-0." Then when the fight broke out at the front he said "If you want to fight go to a football match" (or something like that).
Tricky Dicky said:Ha, I stand corrected. AC/DC lost their PA for about 20 mins I think. Twas the first big gig I ever went to, age 16, and my first time at Wembley. Nils Lofgren had a trampoline on stage.
Blimey, it seems like a long time ago.
Trufflehound said:The AC/DC thing was hilarious. It was only the outward speakers that went, and they didn't notice and kept playing for the first five minutes (their stage speakers were working).
Enjoyed Nils Lofgren's stage somersaults.
METALMICKY said:The Stranglers were one of the few quality bands of the punk era who could actually play their instruments and write a decent song. And don't forget that Dave Greenfield came from Brighton.
Personally i thought their last great album was The Raven and i totally lost interest when Hugh Cornwall departed.
Their autobiography is a great read and clearly demonstrates why they were always getting into aggro with both the law and fans. Hugh & JJ always up for a scrap and their unofficial crew were a bunch of Hells Angels called the Finchley Boys.
