I think this was because when she died, it was in the middle of summer in a jetski accident.....somewhat distant from the festive period!

Actually sorry to disappoint you but she died on 19 December, 2000, when she was hit by a speedboat which was in an area reserved for swimmers. and while it would have been too late for the song to be re-released that year there was always 2001 - onwards.
