The Argus article on its 110 years, one interesting response to it.

"Nobles payed a squatter from Brighton a tidy sum to set fire to, and destroy, the beautiful West Pier. The money he earned was spent on vast amounts of Ketamine for use and resale in one of Brighton's many drug circuits. I can't prove any of this as there is no evidence, but it's been told time over amoungst certain circles and is something for the wider audience to consider."

All I know is that the next day I had an abundance of freshly roasted nuts for sale.....
