When do you get excited about the new season?

I consider the start of the season when Spurs sign a big name (who turns out shit)

From then on I can wait for the new season

Right here, right now
Will really start getting excited when:

1 We make a new signing (in addition to Dicker)
2 The friendlies are announced
3 The new fixtures are out!

Worthing friendly marks the proper start IMHO

Sign of just how tinpot we are now, we used to have teams like Wolves and Spurs for pre-season, and now like you I get excited about going to f***ing Worthing :(

Well, we won't have Wolves this year - they have already released their pre-season programme, which is a tour of Oz followed by an unamed international team visiting Molineux.

Ditto.. :yahoo:

Did I hear rightly somewhere that there may be a "surprise" fixture for the friendlies ??

Does that ring any bells with anyone ??

I'd settle for ANY league club above us

Oh and the reason it's an unamed International team is probably a bit like our testimonial unamed teams...it's because they haven't found a team who's agreed to play them yet..probably

we ALWAYS play Worthing first friendly of a pre season, its just a deal we have had going for ages. We always get a big(ish) team to play pre season, but always start with Worthing

In 2006, I went to an England v Portugal World Cup quarter final and Brighton v Worthing pre season friendly in the same week. That is a big come down but signifies the start of the season for me!

It has it's upsides, it's almost a home game for me and we get to have a look at our future stars - McCleod looked a class apart from what I saw of him in that game last season, I didn't realise that he always looked unfit though, I thought he'd just got a bit lardy in the off season :)

I guess it fun for Worthing though as their players try to cripple their league opponents.

Er, the WC 1/4 Final was on July 1st., as I was at a mate's wedding and had to bale to watch the game in a hole of a pub in Archway...

I thought the Worthing friendly was mid/late July!?

Could be the opposite of right of course ;)

Worthing
The few days leading up to the fixtures coming out is when I usually start to get excited.

The time from then until the first "real" game is excruciating!

As soon as the squad number list is released, that's when I get excited.

I love the annual trip to Worthing, nothing better frankly.
