Fascinating Long Read in today's Guardian about the Gatwick drone from a couple of years ago and the aftermath of that incident

It's a well researched article and shows how things have a habit of snowballing. The author has certainly left no stone unturned.
Like everyone else I'm still none the wiser as to what happened.

I think I'd be inclined to go with the helicopter in the distance theory.

An aircraft the size of a helicopter would surely have shown on radar and been known to ATC - a mostly plastic object the size of a drone most likely wouldn't.
