At least if you're in possession of some of them.

Just had a look on eBay and some cupid stunt has bid 29 quid for one. Fair play to whoever's punting them if you can exploit idiocy like that.

it is a shite idea. If I had the misfortune to live in Lewes I would be ashamed and humiliated.

What if something costs fifty pence? Do they have coins?

I don't get it.

You would get the change in sterling. The idea is really aimed at encouraging people to shop at local shops instead of out of town super stores.

I still don't really get it.

If you're going to go to the trouble of changing up your sterling into Lewes Pounds so that you spend it in Lewes and support the local economy, then wouldn't you ALREADY be the type of person who'd be making that concious effort to spend in Lewes anyway ? Why bother converting your sterling to the Lewes Pound, you might just as well carry on using your sterling if you were determined to buy in Lewes.

And those people who couldn't give a toss won't bother with it anyway.
The whole thing is a pointless, inbred GIMMICK.

When I got given some last Thursday, I was told it was Lewes's bid to be more environmentally friendly and keep things in the community.

How printing off 100,000 bits of paper for no reason is environmentally friendly I'm not to sure, but this little country village has gone ahead and done it anyway.

There is a nice picture of Firle on the front of the notes too

Yet another moronic gimic by our friends at Lewes Council.

If there was a financial benefit to changing the money up then could see it taking off but you have to be in the town to change the money so are you not there spending it anyway???

Essentially this boils down to Lewes Pound v Clubcard Vouchers not really much of a contest is it

If you have to use a cash machine in Lewes, do you get proper money or Lewes crap?

I think some of you on here ought to chill out - and no, I don't live in Lewes.

I gather that you don't have to accept Lewes pounds if you don't want them; so what is the problem? If you don't want to get involved, you don't have to.

And I don't think that De Vecchi and her crew have anything to do with it do they? After all, this is innovative and experimental and may be even a bit visionary. Not really their usual way of doing things, is it?.

Its utterly pointless though, Screaming J. There is no tangible advantage to it whatsoever. For anyone.

I have to admit I don't really understand how it works; it seems to need quite a few people to commit to an act of faith to make the concept function.

Mind you, given whats going on in the global financial markets at the moment.............!!!!
