Saw Jez Bird who was in the band many times on the Eastbourne area pub circuit. He also played at my mates wedding. Tragically he died of cancer last year.

Does anyone remember this local group?

Poison Ivy got to number 7. Is that the highest position a local group has occupied in the charts?

A band close to my heart. Used to go to their gigs back in the late 70's and early 80's. Went to school with Doug Saunders (Guitarist) brother, Donald.

Beat Boys in the Jet Age was their first and best album.

They played at the Bluebell Inn near Ringmer at my mates' birthday about five years ago. Awesome. Really saddened by the loss of Jez Bird.

They are touring in December. Doug Sanders is being interviewed about it on BHCR on Friday.

Great guy, Jez. He used to play fairly regular in a pub in East Preston, and would always bang out a few mod numbers for me if I was in...Sad news when I'd heard he'd died...

The drummer Paul Wincer was a good mate of mine back in those days and i saw Jez play at The Racehorse inn down Elm Grove a couple of times in the 90s. He was a very talented guy.

Didnt know that he had died

The follow up to poison ivy, was a single called Dance which was a lot better.
It was indeed a much better song. Written by Jez Bird who was a criminally underrated songwriter. I don't think he realised how good he was as when I used to see him play (only in local pubs despite the fact he was much better than that) he would never do his own stuff as he said that 'no one wanted to hear it'.

Beat Boys in the Jet Age is one of my all-time favourite albums.
