Went to the Imperial war museum yesterday and thy had a exhibition on the Holocaust. It was very sad and really brings the event home. They had a model which set out the extermination process and in a class cabinet had shoes and personal belongings that you see in the pictures (the ones with great mounds). Basicall the Nazis were f***ing pricks the way they treated 'non pure' people. :nono:

P.S Did you know you can still go and visit Auschwitz. I didnt  I bet that is quite interesting if you know what I mean

If you get a chance, read the stories of "Kindertransport", which was the name given to children of Jews and non arians who were sent to "safe" countried by their parents. Harrowing stories indeed.

If anyone gets a chance, please read Fatherland by Robert Harris. It is a detective story set after the war which Germany was victorious.

Its a pity they dont have a memorial to the gulags that would be better balanced.

Then again its Better to have neither as it is turning this country into a victim culture.

If you are interested in history, there is an epic 9 hour film called "Shoah" (I think) all about the holocaust....moving stuff

Also, did anyone else catch the Channel 5 programme on the Burma Railway last night? Can see why my grandfather used to hate the Japs after hearing about the way they treated POW's last night...

I've been to Aushwitz, the most moving two hours of my life, the feeling as they take you into the 'showers' is something i had never felt before and thankfully haven't since.
It really brings it home just how evil and twisted the whole nazi ideology really was.

The Holocaust Museum in Washinton D.C is well worth a visit if you ever get a chance to go as well.

The Holocaust was a period when " humanity " lost the plot and those that new about it turned a blind eye or just followed orders.

They murdered 6 500 000 people for being Jews. Hitler wanted a master breed of 6ft 2 blond men ( slightly gay tendencies ? ) and once they were percecuted and then put in Ghettos he devised his masterplan of " The Final Solutuion ".

He awarded scientists who upped the anti and each gas chamber had a death per hour ratio which they tried to increase especially when he knew the game was up.

They did unbelievable experiments best not mentioned on here. Amazingly some sick people have a society denying the holocaust ever happened.

Spielberg produced the magnificent " Schindler's List " which got as close as was possible to showing the tale, The Pianist was also a good attempt to show what happened , especially the first half of the film, Shoah being 9 hours long is probably the definative report on the holocaust.

The Nazi's were not uniquley evil there are many others as well. Stalin held pogroms against the jews.

Sorry but most of this holocaust hysteria is unbalanced and insignificant compared to the red slaughter of the 20th Century.

Aushwitz is about 45 minutes outside of Krakow in Poland (lovely city, untouched by the war and you can still walk around the Jewish ghettos) its pretty much in the middle of nowhere from what i remember.

In fat is probably about a centremetre and a half north east of krakow but i can't be sure.

Yes but the Nazis took it to a very very extreme level

So did Communists. After the Russian revolution the russian secret service slaughtered peasants and there families on site, cant remember the name of it it had 4 letters and was the precurser to the KGB. A third of the population of Cambodia was exsterminated in death camps.

It wasn't unique.

I can see why some refer to this as the "red fire wall", Communists are responsible for the deaths of 100million people through various methods.

I actually went and researched the Nazi exstermination programme via transit papers. ie Belsen was a transit camp which held people prior to their transfer to auswitz or Ravensbruke (excuse spelling), it was very disturbing.

Socialist regimes did the same thing.

Every ideology is responsible for thousands of deaths purely becuase it is in the nature of the 'beast'.

The communists in Russia were evil motherfuckers as looney says and didn't care who they killed, women, children, babies but the Nazis were not as subtle about it s the communists who weren't as interested in imperialism so what they did is not as widely recognised.
