If they don't like the terms set by the EEC let them go bankrupt. They are completely out of line with other EEC countries and I have no sympathy.

Not Luton! Thank God
It's made some of the benefits they have in Greece though. Public Sector workers get 2 extra months wages for turning up on time and for using computers and the retirement age is 53. Not hard to see how they've racked up such debt.

They also see tax avoidance as a national sport.

Wont be long till the great unwashed take to the streets of the UK.

I read an article somewhere - possibly BBC website - from where the phrase "Greece is a poor country full of wealthy people" struck me. Allegedly it is ingrained that everyone, including professionals such as surgeons and lawyers, expect cash for everything so they don't have to pay tax. Presumably they haven't realised that you can't expect high levels of publice service and low/zero tax.

The 14-month thing is a bit of a red herring, in fairness.

Employees still get an annual salary, it's just paid out slightly differently to many other countries.

its a large plan by the IMF - they will pop of the european states one by one.

greece first because if you can do it in greece, the rest will be piss.

look at this, UK National Debt Clock — No-Nonsense Guide to Britain's Debt Crisis
the only way to fix this is to print more money (backed by nothing) ....but this will in time male it worse.

in 5 years money as we know it wont exist. if you think this is nonsense research derivatives for week and get back to me.

sustainable living is the answer.

I'm in Corfu as we speak and the Greeks can't do enough for you. Mind you, we're in a 4 star all inclusive hotel and haven't ventured out of the complex yet

if you think this is nonsense research derivatives for week and get back to me

just talking to the barman and he rekons there's so much gold in the mountains and oil under the sea that nit would be a very quick fix to the country's plight....yet the government won't allow them to dig for it.

sustainable living is the answer.

out of curiosity, who is running/funding the IMF then to have this plan?

if money wont exist, what will replace it? is this necessarily a bad thing? and what sort of derivatives should we research, it covers a rather broad range of finacial instrument. in fact one might argue that all money is essentially derivative.

as for sustainable living, it is indeed a good answer, but raises a troublesome question: how do we reduce the world population to a sustainable level?
