We seem to have come to a halt.

Richie, have you got onto the printers to get a price? I've spoken to some friends (one imparticular) and he's willing to help foot some of the cost of the fanzine if theirs a pretty good chance of him getting his money back.

I am here.

reasons I have not been online much:

- sister and nephew over from new zealand..not seen them in over a year.

- brothers wedding last weekend and in notts this one just gone.

- been doing 45 hour weeks at work.

Currently I am waiting on a copy of quark to be sent down to me then I can get going. My nephew has been living in our office at home so could not get on PC for nearly a month for any longer then ten minutes.

I am waiting for the quark then I shall begin laying up. I am as frustrated with it as anyone.

Can someone please ring the printers and get a quote? 36 pages, a5, colour front and back. Shall we say, 500 copies?

It would be a good start to find out the cost but I cannot ring from work as we are massively short staffed and I start before 8.

cheers

Richie

Richie, I've left a message on the main board thread about this fanzine and I hope you don't think it is too harsh. It isn't intended to be a "go" at you but it is intended to try and inject some reality into the current situation!

When you suggested this second issue of the fanzine you suggested you had "plenty of time" to devote to it. Clearly - and life has a habit of doing this - things turned out differently. However, you cannot honestly say you are EDITING this fanzine without actually doing some of the jobs that need doing.

People need evidence of things HAPPENING, not lists of excuses why they aren't. I'm encouraged to see Del Boy's enthusiasm for tackling two big tasks but, to be honest, richie they are jobs YOU should have done.

If this mag is ever going to get produced (let alone produced without grief!) I'd suggest that two options are available.

1. You pull your finger out and get some work done.

2. It's produced by an EDITORIAL COLLECTIVE - as was the case with several previous fanzines including some of the very best like Scars & Stripes & Gulls Eye. They were not the product of any one person nor did they rely on a vague group of "helpers".

Roz, I have been saying pretty much the same thing to Del Boy which is why he has volunteered to help out wth that side of things.

The last month has been a one off.

I have nothing on apart from work now and have my office at home back.

I also start a two day journalism course starting in sept which will be all that Im doing.

Im happy to do the lay out side of things and gathering articles etc, just could do with some help on the other bits..which Del Boy has kindly volunteered to do.

A few questions.

So even with adds, how do we realistically gain £500?

you want 36 pages? how many did we have last time because we need more this time round.

Quark problem solved. My friend who came with me last night has a copy. He s also a good degree in graphic design and is going to help.

Get cracking on the articles and I will begin laying it up this weekend.

Its all coming together now.

would it be woth puting the price up to £1.50?

I don't think it'd be worth it. If you say 'only a pawnd...' it gets interest but you might find people will be less forthcoming with 1.50.

Sounds obvious I know but do make a checklist of the articles you EXPECT to receive and check them off against a dummy layout.

Time spent NOW with nothing more high tech than a pen and the appropriate number of A4 pages folded in half, landscape, can save hours and hours of despair later.

Check the format needed for the printer too. All pictures & graphics will need to be in .tiff format, at least 300dpi, & CMYK. They need to be formatted BEFORE they go into the document.

PS. Keep the cost to a nice round number. Either "only a pahnd" or 2 quid. Don't faff with fifty pences since you'll spend more time giving change than selling fanzines.
