I just don't get The Darkness - have seen them live and they were utter unadulterated crap.

It can't be the music that is popular because there are so many other far better exponents of the genre.

Is it that they present the classic 'rock' image?

I'm going to be controversial now and say that I like them. And I've heard all the classic rock that went before. I was brought up on it and have listened to it all my life but I'm still open to new bands.

bit rough to slate them because the industry has jumped on a bandwagon and hyped them up, its not exactly like they take it particually seriously themselves. They aint great, but they are a refreshing change from the teeny pop crap.

I love them myself and can't see why people have a problem with them. They're not trying to be anyone else, although it's easy to draw comparisons with other rock acts if you choose elements of their look or sound.
They've said themselves, they're just out for a laugh and to entertain, and I think they do it well. If you've seen interviews with Justin Hawkins, he's not pretentious at all, and just into having a good time.
Why is it whenever someone comes along and gets popular, there are a queue of people waiting to knock them down again?
At this rate, The Darkness may as well just call themselves Coldplay and be done with it!
Leave them alone, what have they done to you? If you don't like them, listen to something else.
