Had this discussion yesterday in another space…
The Modern (not necessarily champions) Champions League appearances by EPL clubs breaks down like this:
Man U (24) Arse (19) Chelsea (19) Liverpool (15) City (12 consecutive) Spurs (6) - The Top 6.
Leicester’s one appearance in 16-17 is the only non-top-6 appearance in the last decade. Newcastle (2) Leeds (1) and Blackburn (1) the only other EPL reps since 1992/93. NINETY FIVE of the 100 club appearances since the PL & modern CL from the top 6.
Pretty much a closed shop unless a club has vast resources and the ‘strategies’ to break in and stay there. Utterly remarkable that we’re even in with a (1%) sniff.
