The Large One
Who's Next?
is a law unto itself.
I live within a conservation area in Brighton, and we wanted to build a room in the roof. We contacted the planning officer, and the conservation officer, and ran through our plans with them.
The Conservation Officer said he would prefer a dormer at the back of the house, rather than 2 roof windows, with one roof window at the front. So we made our plans lodged our application (costing £110) , it went through committee, and guess what? The very thing that the conservation officer suggested we do was the very reason the application was turned down.
We now have to pay an architect to re-draw the plans, and pay to re-submit. We now feel like suing the council, where one department, which made very prudent suggestions, clearly is not in contact with another about matters of policy.
It's a wonder Falmer has got this far...
