Charity Of The Year category.

I know the REMF has been nominated, and even shortlisted, for this award several times since it began its good work, but has never been chosen as the winner. Perhaps nominations this year will see our own REMF rewarded with the local accolades it deserves?

If anyone on NSC wants to nominate the REMF through the above link - the more the merrier, I'm sure! - here is some information you may like to use in your nomination.

Robert Eaton, an avid Brighton and Hove Albion supporter, was one of the 67 Britons who died in the terrorist attacks on the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York on September 11, 2001.
The Robert Eaton Memorial Fund was created by his parents, Doug and Laura Eaton, his friends and fellow B&HA fans to support youth football initiatives.
REMF funded a club for underprivileged children in New York over three years, supported many local junior clubs with kit and equipment, and has helped fund Coaching For Hope in Africa, teaching football alongside HIV awareness.
It has also helped fund the Seagulls Specials, the BHA football disability project, teams for children and adults with special needs.
The fund stepped up when DaSH JFC, of Denton, near Newhaven, was short of funds to replace its derelict facilities and pitch.
What more fitting tribute to an avid Seagulls fan than to help hundreds of children to play and improve through football in his memory?

Anyone whose team or children have been helped could write a personal nomination saying how the fund has helped them in their situation?
If anyone involved with REMF would like to add anything to my list of REMF funded achievements above, please do, as my memory isn't the best in my old age!!

I wish the REMF my whole support and luck for being announced the winners this year - and applaud all those involved in the creation, running and support of such a worthwhile cause.

Here is the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund sponsored DaSH Under 10's proudly lifting the Under 10's trophy at the Sovereign Saints Tournament yesterday.

They emerged victorious from a 30 team age group, beating strong teams like Eastbourne Borough, Ratton Rangers, Pevensey and Westham, Broadoak and Horam, Lewes Bridgeview and Old Town Boys to claim the title.

The boys would like to dedicate their win to Robert, his parents, and all those involved with the REMF and thank you all for your continued support. These boys, and their parents, appreciate your help so much and are looking forward to being ball boys on Friday, and maybe warming up with the fabulous Peter Ward? Thank you again.

Mrs Coach. Secretary of the DaSH Under 10's.

They will be warming up with Peter Ward.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
The nomination form asks for an address for the charity you are nominating. Any idea of a contact address for REMF?

The REMF has been short listed 3 times in the 8 years of these awards.

2002
2007
2008

We have lost out everytime.

I think it is everyones desire and wish that if we ever did win that Douglas & Laura would take to the stage to accept the award of Sussex charity of the year in the memory and hounor of their Son. It would mean a lot to them to say the least.

Douglas is 86 and Laura is 84.

I am just doing this, can anyone tell me how REMF is opererated, I am assuming its does not employ anybody and therefore all monies gained go directly to your nominated causes.

Hopefully this year you will get the recognition you so much deserve. Well done to everyone involved and have a great weekend.

"Football can be a positive force for unity or held up as an example of greed and selfishness. The REMF - named in honour of a very kind Brighton man who tragically died on 9/11 - support youth football in the UK and around the world in the spirit of unity and inclusion. An astonishingly hard working charity, the volunteers deserve many plaudits for their ongoing hard work and commitment. Whether they win or not - they deserve every encouragement and the gratitude of many, many people around the world.

Charity number 1092631"
