Charity Of The Year category.
I know the REMF has been nominated, and even shortlisted, for this award several times since it began its good work, but has never been chosen as the winner. Perhaps nominations this year will see our own REMF rewarded with the local accolades it deserves?
If anyone on NSC wants to nominate the REMF through the above link - the more the merrier, I'm sure! - here is some information you may like to use in your nomination.
Robert Eaton, an avid Brighton and Hove Albion supporter, was one of the 67 Britons who died in the terrorist attacks on the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York on September 11, 2001.
The Robert Eaton Memorial Fund was created by his parents, Doug and Laura Eaton, his friends and fellow B&HA fans to support youth football initiatives.
REMF funded a club for underprivileged children in New York over three years, supported many local junior clubs with kit and equipment, and has helped fund Coaching For Hope in Africa, teaching football alongside HIV awareness.
It has also helped fund the Seagulls Specials, the BHA football disability project, teams for children and adults with special needs.
The fund stepped up when DaSH JFC, of Denton, near Newhaven, was short of funds to replace its derelict facilities and pitch.
What more fitting tribute to an avid Seagulls fan than to help hundreds of children to play and improve through football in his memory?
Anyone whose team or children have been helped could write a personal nomination saying how the fund has helped them in their situation?
If anyone involved with REMF would like to add anything to my list of REMF funded achievements above, please do, as my memory isn't the best in my old age!!
I wish the REMF my whole support and luck for being announced the winners this year - and applaud all those involved in the creation, running and support of such a worthwhile cause.
